Thank you for your insight on Libya. I just came back from a 10 day vacation (during which i did NOT watch or read news), and i came home to so much criticism of the administration and I have been trying to piece it together and understand where it's all coming from. I still haven't found a good article that breaks down what happenned what warnings the administration did or did not have, and the response.

for you ladies who like to be condescending to anyone with a different political view than you...how come you didn't pick apart my concerns re: libya? or solyndra?

I'll bite. At least on Libya.

As someone who is a former foreign affairs officer who served at the State Department (and also previously served in the military), you really ought to stop relying on conspiracy websites for your "facts."

First off, it was a tragedy that we lost those four AmCits. It shouldn't have happened, but if you had been reading along with the news (legitimate news, that is), you'd know that Amb Stevens was known for going out into the terrain, and not taking his security detail with him. And when the attacks started on the consulate-- and I want to make sure you understand the difference between a consulate and an embassy, since Fox News can't quite get that distinction clear even weeks now after the incident-- it was clearly a chaotic scene and no one knew what was going on. The one thing they could plainly see was that people were coming in to kill the staff. I doubt that the staff on the ground were saying "Hold up, sir. Are you a member of Al Qeada or just upset over an offensive video clip?" In a somewhat lawless environment/conflict zone, it can be and is hard to tell who is who. Who is a big-T Terrorist, and who is someone who has been worked up into a lather by some kind of leader/preacher/mullah?

In the fog of war, in traumatic situations, time stands still. Things look like they are moving in slow motion. You don't know what end is up and what end is down. So was it an organized band of terrorists or an angry mob that had some kind of continuity to it because they were all incited over the same thing? The reports that we have now appear to indicate that it was more of an organized terrorist attack. But even if it were an angry mob, the actions carried forth are still very much an act of terror and violence. The Administration in the hours and days after the attack spoke about what they thought was the case at the time. They thought it was similar to the attack on the Embassy in Cairo. Further investigations have shown now that it was not the same. We still don't have all of the answers.

But would you or anyone else in this country sat silently back and not demanded information about the attacks if the admin had held back and said "we're investigating it"? No. You would have claimed that they were 'hiding' information, 'covering up' something. There was/is no response that would have satisfied those that hate the President.

So, I'd suggest that you first, find some different sources for your 'facts' since you seem to be quoting off of all of the known conspiracy sites out on the web. And then, I'd suggest that you do some deep reflection on your apparent hatred of those who hold different political views than yourself. America is a country of many different ideas, faiths, creeds, values, political parties, ethnicities, etc. This nation is born out of each individual's sacred RIGHT to think for themselves and to be allowed to believe what they want. But this nation is NOTHING if we don't compromise and find common ground. The moment we stop working together and 'take our ball and going home', is the moment our political system comes to a screeching halt, and those founding fathers that are so idolized, start rolling over in their graves.

Gotta hand it to the 40 or so Congressmen and women who ID themselves as members of the Tea Party. They have been doing a bang-up job at not compromising or even being willing to talk with those who disagree with them. Such wonderful efforts at political discourse are oh so productive and really do the founding fathers proud.

What is the count again? 13 days till Election Day. 71 days till sine die.

WHAT? are you off your rocker? I don't use these so called conspiracy websites...I actually get my information from various news sources regardless of where they lean politically and sift through what i believe and don't myself. Never did i express hatred, it was the other way around...nice try. I totally understand that in the heat of the moment it's hard to understand what is going on, but as the president of the united states you have a responsibility to your people to report factual information. leave it to the media to debate and speculate until you come to a conclusion. Anyway, ok so we're past that point now...where do we go from here...

I'm getting sick and tired of the ladies on this site getting involved in debate and as soon as someone disagrees they get all snippy and personal and become condescending. I don't appreciate you making assumptions and I've barely quoted anything at all. NOT EVERYBODY IS VOTING FOR OBAMA...GET OVER IT!

No need to thank me. There isn't yet, b/c it is so complicated. Foreign Policy mag has been doing a good job at keeping up with it, for the most part. And the answers will come out eventually. DOS has set up a task force to find out what happened and they will make sure that things are changed/fixed so that there is less of a chance something similar will happen again.

What drives me into a blind rage though is that some are politicizing this. Four Americans died, and the R&R campaign couldn't hold their powder long enough to make sure that they didn't inadvertently cause more harm. It is disrespectful of the offices they so aspire to take.

Re: The Official LIF 3rd Presidential Debate Thread!!!

The way I hear people telling it, it seemed as though some damning evidence had come out about the administration failing to prevent a known attack or giving misinformation.

Nothing to get over. You can vote for whomever you like. That's your right. And I never said who I was voting for either, so don't assume I'm *for* POTUS.

But when you talk about being a birther, and make broad generalizations about the Admin lying, and not using hard numbers and facts, and your statements are nearly verbatim to those made by the wingnuts, yeah. I'm going to make assumptions about where you're getting your info.

oh god...now 'm a birther...I made one comment among about 8...simply asking what the deal was...this is exactly what i'm referring to. Alot of the ladies on this site take one comment they don't agree with and they twist it turn it and blow it up into something unrecognizable to what it originally was.

did you read anything else I wrote? or did you just see that comment as an opportunity to jump on your platform? When I saw the layers on that certificate...Yes...thats suspicious. I would never have questioned Obama's citizenship. I simply stated that it was suspicious to see the layers and I found it weird that you would see it vaguely spoken about on the news one day and then the next day it was like nothing ever happened...no further information. I like to get information anywhere I can and analyze it...which is why i thanked that person who posted the link...because originally when the whole "layers" thing came out...their was no SOLID information that debunked it...and that raised a ...what i think to be reasonable concern as to what the agenda would be behind falsifying a document. I needed more answers, I got them, acknowledged them and was appreciative of them...and am still being categorized as a birther...one person commented AN OPINION on the libya events...but nobody else seems to want to touch any of the other REAL concerns I had. So yeah, I think I'm justified to say that there are ladies on here who saw an opportunity to jump on their platform and boy did they.

had any other presidency come up with accusations of falsified documents I would absolutely question the agenda, ANY document...not just birth certificates and not just Obama. I'm not a birther...just a person seeking the truth and more information and well to be quite frank...at the time those videos came out debunking it...I may have been busy being a mom and trying to get by and keep my family afloat because I heard nothing of them and the topic was not discussed. like i said...it was on the news one day and POOF gone. Even if it was a specific issue of citizenship or obama it doesn't even really matter anyway...he's served a full term!! can we please talk about some of the other issues i addressed and stop harping on this birther thing since i explained myself about 5 times already?

sorry, I'm clam...thats just how I speak. I just really don't like when people who know nothing about me, misrepresent me and put me into a box when they only select tidbits of information. I understand people support obama...i'm fine with that. If Obama could deliver what he promised to...this might be a different discussion. I personally don't trust him...even the look in his eyes to be honest. I don't trust mitt either...but the truth is...these are my two options because if i vote for the other options...i'll still end up with one of these two. So, I have no choice but to make peace with one of these options...and B.O has had 4 years and I'm not liking what i see...so i'm ready for something new. I question the agenda behind a falsified document more than i question the citizenship issue. Although, I'd like to think the government would look into making sure that candidates are who they say they are...I mean...if falsified documents got past our government on that level...thats pretty embarrassing. But, again...I came here to discuss...and i got another point of view to answer my questions. Does it mean I'm running to vote for obama? no way...but I'm appreciative of the way in which that person respectfully pointed me in the right direction...without name calling, without picking apart details while ignoring others and casting a judgement on me and being rude because I don't believe what someone else does or because I have different values or check a different box than the next person.

I also think the horses and bayonets answer was not disrespectful and at all and was dead on. You can't compare modern warfare with the past.

I cannot wrap my brain around how incongrous your statement is to your general political belief. It's ok if it's charity, but not your civic duty?

Ya know.. I actually LIKE your questions and your points. We may see things differently but you are civil, calm, educated and clear in your points. I appreciate that.

However... Maybe its the lack of sleep but I'm lost on this question.

Could you please rephrase your question so I can answer (or not Chat Icon )?

Re: The Official LIF 3rd Presidential Debate Thread!!!

And to clarify. I never said lets cut spending to programs but I would say lets NOT cut military spending.

Its a catch 22 that people think that military spending is better spent elsewhere. That's because we think we are safe. We are not. But if we were in all out war (sarcaism not intended but yes can be implied at will) then you'd find people yelling "WHY did he cut the military"

Dems always cut military. We lost a huge base here in SA when Clinton was in office. It utterly destroyed that side of town. The area I grew up in actually. Its a slum now. Crime was bad before now its toxic. Drugs, murders, etc. Cops fear going down there. jobs lost, homes lost, children lost. Sure it saved the average tax payer but the ones here suffered so badly. We still do. Those contracts are gone, security is gone, the hope is gone. They did the best they could to save the others by combining them all into one. Still they feel the pinch.

My grandfather is buried in a military graveyard as is my uncle. What if that base closes?

Money better spent? Hrm... ? I'd love to crack down on those who are milking the system and taking from the needy to profit. Can't we all agree on that?

I give us (all of us) a lot of credit that if we see someone in need we step up.

On OUR ballot locally is a 1/8th cent tax increase to push us up to 8.25% in efforts to finance a pre-k program. We have one but they want it wider. It will have a starting salary for the teachers at 60k, max students at 20 per teacher with assit. Its free to those who dont speak english, poverty level, military children and wards of the state.

Do I vote FOR that when my own school system is asking for waivers to INCREASE the size of kindergarten classes because there's too many students and not enough rooms? I live in the highest taxed area in town (school tax). I couldn't qualify for the pre-k now or if this passes.

I don't mind charity when its me CHOOSING to give. I do have issue when its forced on me.

(honestly Im torn on my vote for that proposal)

I just really don't like when people who know nothing about me, misrepresent me and put me into a box when they only select tidbits of information.

Chat Icon You just summed up quite a few LIF posters in one breath!!!! I thought that was quite funny.

In all seriousness, make your statement and move along. There's no point in trying to debate your POV or defend yourself and why should you? You don't owe anyone here anything. We all have differing opinions so i've learned to state my opinion and then move on. Clearly, your opinion does not line up with the "LIF ELITE" so don't expect your posts to be taken kindly or responded to respectfully.

It's ok to post pics of binders full of women but post the Obamaphone vid and you'll get a whole bunch of this... Chat Icon

Yes. Because the pictures of binders full of women are done in jest. The Obamaphone video is used in most cases to either "prove" that people who vote for Obama are stupid or to make people angry that Obama is giving away free phones to people by making people pay for them via taxes (which is NOT TRUE!!). IMO you can't compare the two. So I stand by my Chat Icon .

well, less than 3 weeks to go. up to the people now. i think RR has a very strong chance here. Much like 2008, people are looking for "Change" and I think we may get it.

Re: The Official LIF 3rd Presidential Debate Thread!!!

I am undecided but lean toward Obama on several issues so I have no idea. Personally, I do not like either candidate and doubt our country's ills will be solved by either President.

I feel like this election is irrelevant because (1) the problems of this country cannot be solved, (2) whoever is elected will face gridlock with Congress, and (3) both candidates and parties have been bought and sold a hundred different times by a thousand different lobbyists since last Sunday.

But Obama is the least bad alternative.
Obama inherited the worst financial crisis since the great depression, most of which was caused by the Republicans and their insistence that financial markets are self policing and self regulating. This is what caused the financial excess that caused the collapse. We were losing hundreds of thousands of jobs a month when he came into office. We are now at least gaining about 100,000 a month. He was also right to bail out the auto industry.

He also killed Bin Laden, has been drone striking the hell out of Al Qaeda and the Taliban, ended the war in Iraq, and is winding down the war in Afghanistan. I simply don't care about any missteps in Benghazi. Does anyone really think he wouldn't try and find and kill the perpetrators? And there is no greater foreign policy fukkc up in the last fifty years than the Iraq war. There were no weapons of mass destruction. Rumsfeld said it would only cost a few billion, that we would be in and out in a few months, and that we would only need 150,000 troops. That war has cost thousands in dead and wounded here and in Iraq, damaged us internationally for decades, and along with Afghanistan, may end up costing $2 trillion. That is coincidentally the same amount needed to repair the decaying infrastructure of this country. Think of how many jobs that would have created.

Obama also seems more willing to compromise. There have been several articles that the Republicans decided right from the beginning that there only goal was to ruin his presidency.

I think his health care bill has good components, but it was a mistake to try and pass that type of major legislation without any bipartisan support. There are also legitimate questions about "Fast and Furious." He has also increased the national debt by $5 trillion. But some of that spending was the result of the mess he inherited, and the Bush Administration also spent like drunken sailors (No Child Left Behind, Medicare Part D, increases in defense spending, etc.) They simply put it all on a national credit card.

Romney is a Wall Street apostle. He won't show us his tax returns, believes capital gains, dividends, and interest shouldn't be taxed at all, has bank accounts in Switzerland, the Cayman Islands, and Bermuda, took a $77K deduction for a horse, and just deliberately overpaid his taxes in order to avoid paying less than his promised 13%. He has also filp flopped on every issue, and will owned by the far right once he gets into office.

His VP Ryan voted against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, has sponsored innumerable bills (some with Todd Aiken) outlawing abortion in the case of rape and incest, and his economic hero Ayn Rand thought that altruism and self sacrifice are the moral equivalent of murder. Just yesterday some Republican said that pregnancies from rape are "intended by God."

The Republicans also have Ted Nugent, Steven Schwartzman (who compared the attempt to properly reclassify carried interest from a capital gain to ordinary income to Hitler's invasion of Poland), Lloyd Blankfein (who said that Goldman Sachs is doing "God's work,") and that a-hole who said that women could put an aspirin between their knees for birth control.
