Is the coffee place still open in Cross bay? the one that has the yummy Tiramisu?

Don't know which one you mean!

There was one really good bakery that either closed or moved on Crossbay, now Heavenly Florist is there

I wish I could remember the name. It was close to the diner. It has been so long since I hung out there...I usually now just go back & forth to my friend's house.

It was a bakery that had little tables in it & had these great little "cups" of Tiramisu. They had good espresso too.

I loved that Bakery! To bad it closed down b/c it was very good. I don't remember the name either.

Bummer!

Can I ask how long you have lived in Ozone Park?

24 years 7 months and 26 days

What point were you trying to make?

And you have not seen a change in those 24 years?

No neighborhood is going to stay the same for 24 years, but I don't think that makes it a dump. It's become more ethnically diverse, which is a good thing. That's really the most major change

The family that owned Mario's won the lottery in 1992 or something for like 6 million dollars. I went to school with their son Biaggio.

Parts of it. The part under the subwya and old LIRR tracks on 100th St or so is pretty run down b/c there's nothing there, but they're building a giant new CVS there with *gasp* a parking lot, so I'm pretty amped about that. A lot of the stores going the other way don't necessarily interest me because they are geared toward the guyanese community. But I shop on liberty all the time. Dee and Dee, the hardware store, Oxford, Duane Reade, the liquor store on 105, pat salumeria for holiday cooking, homestead flooring, benjamin moore. It's not great shopping mecca. There are a lot of real esate and 99 cent stores, but there are also a lo of nice places too. I more often go to 101 avenue.

There is definitely a change in that neighborhood. My grandparents lived in Ozone Park and I was always there as a kid.(I live in Glendale) Well in the 30 years they lived there to today the area is NOT the same. My parents sold the house 2 years ago after they both passed away, and I drive past the house when I am in the area and am just shocked at what the block itself and the surrounding blocks look like. It is so run-down looking. Kinda depressing. Kinda weird that like every other house os for sale too. (They lived on 87th ans Sutter)

Sure! Where else can you find a .99 cent store on every corner? LOL. The stores are not fancy, and I wouldn't "shop" there and make a day out of it just because there isn't alot of variety, but my favorite jeweler is there and my bank, nail salon and the shoe store where I went as a little kid is still there.

Re: The Ozone Park Debate

In areas like ozone park, it's impossible to judge an entire area because every individual block is SO drastically different.

I live on a really nice block. Other blocks are not as nice. My theory is that it has to do with whether the people who live in the house are the owners or renters. On my block most of the people own their homes, and some people own 2 or more hmes and rent them, but live on the block and care for their homes. My block is really clean. The next block over, not so much.

My mom teachers ESL in an elementry school there. After teaching in East New York for 30+ years, she says it is so nice to be teaching there. She loves the population - the students and the parents.
