The Pledge of Allegiance
Lately, I have had friends on Facebook posting the Pledge of Allegiance and saying what a shame it is that the schools don't say it anymore. I was out last night, and met a couple who said the same thing. When I mentioned that we say it every day (under God and all) they get happy and say good for me. Are there really schools that don't say it?

Re: The Pledge of Allegiance
We don't say it. I guess I could do it in my own classroom, but they don't do it on the loud speaker and we aren't required to do it, so most of us don't.
I guess its maybe because I teach kids with autism and a lot of them are non-verbal? But we share a building (and a loud speaker) with a general ed. school and they don't do it either. I am guessing that it might also have something to do with the fact that a large number of our students are immigrants?
Not sure the reason, but we don't, as a school, say the pledge daily.

The Pledge of Allegiance
I have worked in 5 schools and every school I have been in has done the pledge. My new school has also has a moment of silent reflection.

Re: The Pledge of Allegiance
I have worked in several districts on LI and they all said the pledge as part of announcements. I see that post all the time on FB. I would bet more schools say the pledge than don't.

Re: The Pledge of Allegiance
Every school I've worked in has said it daily. My kids now say it in their K classroom.
My district also says it to start every assembly in the auditorium. Besides being our national pledge, it helps to quiet and focus a large group.

Re: The Pledge of Allegiance
I see this all the time on FB, too, and it makes me nuts because it's posted by people who aren't teachers and who don't have kids. Where the heck are they getting their info from??? (For the record -- we say it everyday before the announcements.)

Re: The Pledge of Allegiance
My school DOESN'T say it.
I'm at a charter school.
However, I lead my class in the Pledge every morning.

The Pledge of Allegiance
We say it on Mondays and Fridays during the announcements. The classroom next to me does it everyday. I want to implement it, but I have a Regents exam hanging over my head.

The Pledge of Allegiance
My NYC school said it daily- for many years- and as liberal as I am, heaven help the kid who dared to not stand up.

The Pledge of Allegiance
The whole school, from the secretaries to admin, says it every morning with the loud speaker before the start of our day. If any of us--adult or student--is in the hall, we stop and do the pledge and the national anthem. My para and I walk around the room showing the kids the proper hand to use and where your heart is.
We many not all be from America, but I feel we are here, now, in our classroom, as Americans.
By the end of the year, my 4 and 5 year-olds know it by heart.

My school says it, and my daughter learned it in Nursery School last year. I'm not sure if she says it in Kindergarten...I'll have to ask her.

The Pledge of Allegiance
My school says it every morning as well. I make the kids stand up, but I don't necessarily make them recite it (though I wish they would). I just tell them that men and women died for this country the least we can do is stand up for them for one minute!

Years ago, a teacher in my mom's school (also a public school) got in trouble for making the kids stand, so I'd say yes...

I tell them they need to stand to be respectful, but they do not need to say it.

Re: The Pledge of Allegiance
When I worked in an LI HS, they said it every morning on the announcements. When I worked in NYC high schools, we didn't.
One of the NYC schools was on triple session, so there was no common "homeroom" time for announcements. The other NYC school was in a building it shared with other schools, so announcements were always tricky.
