when "he" actually delivers the baby out of a penis, I might actually pay attention to this, until then SHE should stop trying so hard for attention
my thoughts exactly!
I agree...she's a woman and I don't understand why it gets so much attention.
I have to agree.

I'm fine with them having more kids-I just don't think it's news worthy given that there is nothing out of the ordinary when someone with ovaries and a uterus gets pregnant.

Honestly, these are the kinds of insensitive comments I was referring to in my post. It's really a shame that acceptance for transgendered people is so far off. You don't have to like it or agree with it, but you also don't have to belittle it.

Re: The pregnant "man"
I'm not quite sure why anyone is bothered by how this person identifies themselves? How is it bothering anyone that this person refers to himself as male, but also has female organs and is ahving another baby. What is the difference? Can you honestly say that life as half man/half woman is an easy life for this person? Most likely not. And even if it easy now, I'm sure he's ahd a long journey to this point. You don't surgically remove your breasts for no reason. This person is entitled to have children and live a happy life, regardless of their gender identity.

good for them. the thing that gets me is how they did the insemination by themselves with the first one (don't know about this one) and got the supplies from their pet's veterinarian (and then got the donor sperm sent to the house). They talked about this when they were on Oprah.

What bothers me most about this couple is that although they are both females, one is "legally" considered a male, and therefore this couple is able to enjoy the benefits that gays and lesbians are fighting so hard for today.

This is a very unfair characterization of the situuation. There is a huge difference between being transgendered and being gay. Not just anyone can go to their doctor and have sex reassignment surgery just because they want it. It involves a lot of time and a lot of therapy and psychological evaluations. Your post makes it seem like you think they're somehow trying to cheat the system or something - but the reality is that being homosexual and being transgendered are NOT the same. I'm ALL for gay marriage; however the way to get there isn't to disparage the rights transgendered people have.

Re: The pregnant "man"
I think the whole thing is ridiculous. I don't understand why this couple is even getting as much media coverage as they are.
I do think it's misleading when the news says "pregnant man". IMO that's not really true, this "man" is physically a woman.
Now if they said "transgendered man" is pregnant, that would be more truthful, but then again that would lack the sensationalism that the headline "pregnant man" has.
The only thing I do question is why this couple would want to continually be in the media. I do find that a bit sketchy and I have to admit, I do feel like they're just doing it for the notoriety and/or money.
If my cynicism is right, well, then I think that's just wrong.

I was under the impression to be considered transgendered you had to undergo sexual reassignment surgery and that isn't the case for this guy.

Re: The pregnant "man"
WOW. That's all I have to say right now. I thought I had stumbled onto one of my NC chat boards gauging by the responses here. I've never known LIers to be so narrow-minded.
All I have to say is this: I hope NONE of you ever have to experience the pain and heartbreak that comes with infertility. I guarantee that EVERY LAST ONE of you, if you were in this relationship and in the same position would be seriously considering doing the same thing.
I'm really shocked and saddened by most of these responses. You're sick of hearing about it, fine. But to go so far as to say that what they're doing is "disgraceful"? Why do you care??!!!!

Yes, is it the case for this guy. He did undergo sex reassignment surgery. He just chose not to have the female parts removed. If you do. Some searches more info on him came up.
Also, I'm not sure but I believe in order to legally become a different gender you need to have the surgery or be working toward it. (Not sure and would look it up but I'm on my bberry)
I think transgendered doesn't only apply to those who have had the surgery, but also applies to individuals who feel they are truly one gender yet were born another. Surgery is a step they can take. Obviously though when I referred to his rights I was referring to the rights he received after legally becoming a man.

Thank you both!!
I didn't realize he had already had sexual reassignment surgery and that he was legally a man.
I do still stand by my original statement of "why is this still news?" but that's a whole other issue!

Well, I dipped my Big toe into the pool and realized it was filled with quicksand.
Quickly, I decided that I don't feel like struggling in quicksand for an hour and pulled out my big toe just in time!

First, SHE is a woman. Until SHE has the surgery to change HER vagina to a penis, SHE is a woman. SHE can call herself whatever she likes, but she's still a woman.

good for them, that is great news
ITA! I hope they have another happy, healthy child.
Look, I don't really "get" all the media attention surrounding this and I dislike very much so that he has sought so much attention from the media on this. I also don't really feel the need to read up on these people, but some of the comments about this story (back when he was pregnant with their first child and now that he is pregnant with the second child) really, really disturb me. (Not referring to this thread or even necessarily to LIF posters... just generally comments people have made when discussing this story.)
Just when I think this country has come so far in its acceptance of different people, in its acceptance of gay people in particular, we see so much open negativity and even sometimes downright hostility aimed at transgendered people. Many of us are blessed never to have had to struggle with our sexual and gender identity, but that doesn't give us the right to be so utterly judgmental and upset with those who do.
We've been over the fact that this person is legally a man and identifies himself as a man before. We all know that he also chose to keep his female reproductive organs so he could one day have a child (as he has). This isn't news. However insisting that we must refer to him as "she" is fairly insensitive. yes, we all know that he was born a female and has female reproductive organs. According to himself and the law, however, he is a male. Whatever your opinions about what he is, though, I think people need to respect this person's right to identify himself however he sees fit.
Again, I don't like the media spin and attention this story has gotten and I don't like the way he has sought the media attention with respect to both pregnancies. However, I am saddened by so many of the comments I've heard about this person -- not just on this thread, not just on LIF, but in general. Yes, I get it's different and people are going to talk... but I really thought a lot of society was moving past that.
I completely agree.

I guess he, the government, and the doctors who performed his sex reassignment surgery all should have checked with LIF first...
