The Ugg Controversy
Do you care? Are you NOT going to buy anymore? What about the ones you do have??
I will NOT be buying more, but I'm not strong enough to get rid of the pair I do have!

The Ugg Controversy
I don't know what to think. I know I won't be buying anymore uggs. But I can't get the courage to get rid of the pairs I already have either. I just don't know if I can wear them now, knowing that.
But what's really annoying to me is it's not just ugg. So many treat animals badly that you aren't even made aware of. Perfect example is dolphins!!! If you watch the cove, I guarentee you'll think twice before swimming with dolphins again. I know I'll never swim with a dolphin ever again. So unfortunately it's not just ugg.

I wish I could stop wearing leather altogether, but I'm weak.

I wish I could stop wearing leather altogether, but I'm weak. I know!! Me too! I can't do it either especially when I already spent the money. Kwim.
But I can't help to think- why just ugg?!? There are so many animals being treated badly elsewhere- in zoos, circuses, Etc and people still do those things.

There is an Ugg controversy? I mean, I know some people are not fans of the look, and I used to be one of those people, but those shoes are really not there for their beauty, you know. I personally love my grey classics and thinks they are quite attractive! :)

People are just learning that the sheepskin boots are -gasp- actually made with sheepskin

Yeah, I have to say this isn't exactly news.
Your leather bags and boots aren't exactly cruelty free either.

Re: The Ugg Controversy
I took mine off my wish list. I seriously love how warm they are but not worth the abuse. I'm sure there are plenty of other companies in the world that mistreat animals and I'm not even a vegetarian but as soon as I find out about a specific company that I use, I'm done with them.

The Ugg Controversy
I wont buy them because I think they are just ugly. I don't understand why people all of a sudden realize they are sheepskin. Isn't that the whole point?? Its not like the company tried to hide it. Also the sheep are NOT killed just for the production of boots. Its like cow leather which comes from cows already slaughtered for food. So anyone that wont buy sheepskin boots shouldn't eat lamb either.

Re: The Ugg Controversy
Unless you're also a vegetarian and own no leather items, I wouldn't bother boycotting Uggs. The animals who died to make your bags and shoes didn't have the most awesome life either.

I think the controversy should be that they are too ugly to exist and should be banned for that alone!

Right? I mean, if a poor animal is going to suffer, the clothes/shoes it is being used for better be gorgeous!
I own 1 pair of Uggs. I will admit they are warm and comfortable!! But cute/pretty they are not! lol. I haven't worn them in a while though. I know it's probably just me, but I feel like a 12 year old when I put them on. All I would need is pajama pants and I'd be good to go. lol.

Re: The Ugg Controversy
I'm going with the Native American philosophy on this one. I eat lamb, I'm wearing its skin and wool. No part of the animal should be wasted. Same way I feel about cows- I eat steak, I wear leather. Not necessarily at the same time, but it happens every now and again

Re: The Ugg Controversy
Anything made of animal skin/fur is obtained in a cruel and inhumane way.
I feel like fUggs are only catching heat because they're so popular. At the same time I'm glad that it's enlightening some people but it does leave me scratching my head: do people think their leather belts, feather hair thingies, or suede shoes come off of some tree?

This! And what, exactly, did people think Uggs were made of all these years?

I think this is a good example of WHY this is such a controversy.
Of COURSE people know "where" the boots come from. People know where their steak comes from, etc. I guess the hope is that the animal is treated/put to death in a humane way. The NA philosophy is that if you use all parts of the animal, and are respectful of the fact that an animal is giving its life for this purpose (food, clothing, whatever) then it is somewhat different from just keeping animals malnourished in pens until its time to kill them.
I'm not sure where I stand on it. I acknowledge my own hypocrisy - I do not eat meat, but I do wear leather shoes.

Re: The Ugg Controversy
I guess I just get put off by the way "controversies" like these whip people into a frenzy. Like this one girl on my FB posted about it and made a big show of saying "I'M THROWING AWAY MY UGGS RIGHT NOW!". This is one of those people that just enjoys protesting something, kwim? PSA: the sheep is already dead. Throwing the Uggs out won't bring him back to life. Now, if you thought about the way the animals are treated and then resolved to eat less meat, or buy less leather, I feel like that's so much more productive and impactful.

Or selling your Uggs on eBay and donating the $$ to Humane Society.

I like the Native American philosophy as I eat lamb and steak and I do wear leather and lambswool. I feel this way things are not wasted. I do buy kosher cuts of meat as the butcher (shochet) must slaughter the animal in a humane way. It must be one blow so to speak.

Re: The Ugg Controversy
Honestly, a lot of smart, well educated, successful people DON'T realize what is involved until it's literally thrown in their face. - I am one of those people.
Maybe it was stupid of me, but I didn't realize sheepskin anything was literally sheep SKIN ......like, they savagely rip their skin off while the poor animals are still alive. WHAT is the purpose of that? I honestly thought it was just their wool ......like a sweater or anything else that is shaved - I didn't know the outer part of the boot was actually the sheep's SKIN
I've owned several pairs of UGGs, - I won't toss mine out and refus to ever wear them again - but I won't purchase anything sheepskin related again b/c I will not be able to get that visual out of my head.
