It starts this Friday !!
So, who are you rooting for? I am rooting for Spain but praying for the U.S.! Their first game is against England on Saturday!

Re: The World Cup Thread
Italy and Argentina.
though I wouldn't mind Spain winning if the other 3 get knocked out.
a bunch of teams have key players injured. so it should be interesting. as much as I would love Italy in a repeat, I just don't see it happening with the squad they have.
I am a big football fan and follow a few club teams. it will be fun chatting with fellow fans!!!!!!!!
Forza ITALIA

Re: The World Cup Thread
sooo....it's TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am getting excited...though still sad we are HERE watching on tv. this will be the first WC since 1998 that we won't be attending in the host country (and of course 1994 if you count the US)
but we just didn't think it was wise to take an infant to South Africa (mostly for shots but also the flight is fairly long). we do have family there though so I hope they enjoy!!!!
unfortunately I'll be at work from the opening matches, but Saturday morning we are hosting a party for the Arg/Nigeria match and then after that, probably walking over to a sports bar near our house.
ESPN will be at Woodwork on Vanderbilt Ave and Dean Street showing the USA-England match on the big screen if anyone is in the area and wants to come down!!! we'll be there.
I bought this for Luce yesterday...i can't wait to see it on him (still have to get him an Italy jersey ) dh is going to have a heart attack when he sees him!!
I just remembered...he already has this bib
Vamos Vamos por Papi Vai Vai per Mama!!!!
Let the games begin!!!!

This link is pretty good with dates and times. Hope it helps, I get so confused with the first stages and dates, etc.

another tie!! I hope you like that!
in any event, Mex and RSA are currently the tops in their group, so france may be going home early!

I'll take a draw! Hopefully, France will not it out of their Group! I really dont think they deserve to be there in the first place. I can hold a gruge for a loooong time!
So looking forward to USA v. England tomorrow.
By the way, I love all of the little things that you got for your Son. I could easily root for Argentina. I am a HUGE Messi fan, so I would not mind seeing him play in the finals! I would also like to see Maradonna on the sidelines coaching a Finals match! He's so temperamental, I am sure he would go insane and have a stroke or something.

Re: The World Cup Thread
What a great day for Team USA! They really held their own against England! Now, I am left wondering if there is a witness protection program for English goalkeepers.

Re: The World Cup Thread
I'm very happy Germany won, but I totally think that red card was unfair. Poor DH felt defeated, he was waving his Australian flags in Germany, the stares we got, lol. I do think Germany would have won anyway. The atmosphere here is incredible!
The vuvuzelas need to be gone! They are so annoying!

Re: The World Cup Thread
ugh, I felt so BADLY for Australia. it clearly wasn't their "day". I hate when people win by such a large goal margin. it's so disheartening!!!!
we were a happy household yesterday with Argentina's victory (though how many shots did they MISS )
this afternoon it's gli Azzuri's turn. FORZA FORZA FORZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched some of that game but it looked as if Germany was going to win early on. I felt bad for the Aussies - you hate to see a goal diff like that!
And, youre right about those faarking horns. It's like there's a gnat in your ear that will not go away! I cannot imagine tring to concentrate on the game with that noise. Imagine trying to play or sit in the stands under those circumstances??!! PASS THE EAR PLUGS!
Looking forward to the Italy game today!

Re: The World Cup Thread
I thought Paraguay played well against Italy. However, I felt both teams made a lot of mistakes.
