Re: The World Cup Thread
I didn't even know there was a world cup thread! I'm kind of happy to be unemployed right now, because I can catch all the games. How amazing was the Portugal vs. North Korea game? And the USA game today?
Italy is my #1, but I'm also rooting for USA.

Re: The World Cup Thread
Awful awful awful. Watching the replay, I think their goal should have counted but not sure if it would have made a difference. They played a terrible 1st half.

Re: The World Cup Thread
As my husband just said...disgraziati! But I agree, they really didn't deserve to advance with the way they played these last few games. They stepped up their game way too late. It was a nice little run in the end but too little, too late.

I knew it was going to happen.
I know they don't deserve a repeat.
but, it was still such a loss.

Re: The World Cup Thread
I watched the Ghana game. Couldn't see it on ESPN until 9pm tonight... but I watched it on Univision...
Oh well, the game is just as interesting even if I can't understand the announcers (maybe even more interesting, depending on the announcers... ), and GOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL sounds the same as GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL
Unfortunately, I heard the word uttered for Ghana more than I did for the US....

Re: The World Cup Thread
England should have gotten that second goal, but in the end it didn't matter.
Go Deutschland!
Argentina played very well (despite the offside, lol) and I have a bit of fear about he next game. I can only hope for the best and I think Germany has a great team and will at least give a good fight! I have hope they will win , sorry Ophelia!
ETA: Maradona is kind of annoying me.

It was actually on ABC. (if you mean tv, and not online)
My DH was watching the games online on Univision because ESPN was blocked at work, but they've caught on & blocked Univision to.
My dad always watched ( non World Cup) soccer games on Spanish langauge tv, because it wasn't really shown on English langauge stations here & he doesn't speak Spanish at all.

we will be at odds this next round but my husband and I have a healthy fear of Germany right now. their defense is better than Args and their offense is VERY dangerous.

Me too but WHY WHY WHY would you put someone who has never scored a goal for the team up for a penalty kick?!?

Re: The World Cup Thread
so here's the deal - if i cheer for you, you're out
Italy USA England (they like never beat Germany - I knew they couldn't but still I like upsets sometimes) Japan (again, knew they probably couldn't be Paraguay but was rooting for them with a Japanese coworker)

Instead of the jumping man all I see is a Fox Hollow icon. Is this just me?

I don't see the Westbury Manor. Only two ones are screwed up. The jumping guy and this one . That one says- I'm kind of a big deal, lol.

Re: The World Cup Thread
Well my emoticons are back to normal, lol.
What a great game !
It looks like that German octopus's predictions are working. Linky for octopus I've been following it from the beginning. Didn't believe it at first...
Argentina played well, but major holes in their defense, like stated before. I really didn't expect it to be 4-0. That first half was so nerve racking, I was just waiting for Argentina to score a goal.
Maradona looks like a fan in a suit. The commentators here were saying that he was probably wearing a jersey under it.
I really think that it will be a Netherlands-Germany final, with Germany winning. However, you never know. I am a bit afraid of Germany's next game with Spain. I'll just have to wait for the octopus to make his choice .
Funny link about Vuvuzuelas, from the movie The Downfall, but obviously they are not talking about vuvus
