The Yentas!!! LIRR related!
5 ladies on the train this morning sitting together...it was non-stop yenta!!! One in particular I think was running for office! I call her the Mayor..
Then they get off the train at Penn and proceed to cut in front of everyone getting on the escalator..
when I got up the escalator they were standing around still being yentas...
I said, what a bunch of Yentas very loudly so they all heard..
I was sitting in the middle of the car and they were in the shorter part of the car and I still heard their conversation verbatim.
I know all about the C section, the prostate cancer and the new bathroom they put in...$18K..

I always hated those "cliques." I remember a crew of 6 that would get on at Hicksville. My train was always so quiet up until they got on. It was 5 women and 1 man. The man was the worst. They used to flirt with him the entire time. The good thing was that I changed train cars because they were interrupting my nap and one time when they ended up in my section. A few of the other passengers yelled at them to pipe down and another yelled that he was going to call the guy's wife! lmaooo

it's close quarters, not private...just keep your voice down..
the cackles coming from that end of the car was just stupid..
One guy told the conductor to tell them to pipe down or he would call the LIRR.
I also dealt with IPOD guy..he must be deaf by now..he was listening to Earth Wind and Fire..

Luckily, my morning train ride is pretty quite... but there's a group of women who sit together every day. They are very nice and quiet and I can't hear them since I always sit in an entirely different section of the car.
However, one day I overheard them say something about me and my DH. (We commute together) I guess it started to bother them that we were getting to the train station earlier than they were and were "first in line" to get into the car. (Please note - we sit in entirely different sections of the train and there are always plenty of seats on this train...)
Since that day, one of them has been there early every single day. I think they have a rotation as to who will get there and stand closest to the yellow line so one of them gets on first. They always give us a look when we walk up. It's hysterical. Mind you, we still leave at the same time every morning and still get a seat on the train, even if we don't get in FIRST.

last time I rode out east on the LIRR during rush hour, this guy was on the train with his posse of chicks.
they were all laughing and yucking it up...talking about how he hides his internet porn collection from his wife on his laptop. the women were flirting and he was lapping it up like a puppy. it was so sad and funny watching them get off on each other as they went back to their little lives and sad too.
I would go NUTS on a b1tch if she was talking to my husband about porn. NUTS. and then I'd rip out my husbands tongue and whip him with it. but I am a jealous beyotch.

of course they are. b/c they've managed to make friends when you can't. someone cares about betsy when she misses the train but no one cares about you.
and they don't want you in their group.
you with your ipod. lonely lonely ipod.
you wish you could sit with them and listen to their stories of husbands who snore, kids who get suspended, the next door neighbor who wears short skirts and pops her rocks out (for shame)
you probably don't even have the volume on. you're probably listening and wishing on the sneak.

Actually I have custom molded earphones. They are shaped exactly to fit inside my ear (had to get my ear sized at an audiologist's office to get these).
They sound fantastic, never fall out of my ear since they fit real snug.
I can play them real loud and you can't hear them if you are sitting next to me.
And the best thing about them? I can put them in and not play anything. They double as earplugs so if I want a nice quiet ride, I just put these in and they tune all the cliques OUT.

this is why i think there should be designated talking cars. if you use your commute to gossip or talk on your phone- use those cars. I know the majority of peps want to sleep, so it should be 2 cars quiet, 1 car talking, and so on.
