My heart goes out you and your DH. What someone early on wrote about the love and joy special needs children can bring is in fact very true. I worked with the parents of special needs children and regardless of what the diagnosis was or how mild or severe, the women I met were absolutely incredible. They developed a strength they didn't always know they had, an incredible committment to their child and family, and expressed feeling incredible happiness and love for their child. One mother once told me that it gave her strength to know that God would never give her something she couldn't handle and that because of this she knew that God had blessed her with her son because He knew that she had the strength and love to raise him and care for him.
While they say there is nothing you can do now, start finding out about possible early intervention programs and strategies and what you should be looking for in your son's development. Early intervention is key as a child's brain is extremely malleable and can reorganize such that certain brain areas take over for others, etc. You should probably also ask about maybe taking your son to a developmental pediatrician vs a regular one.

I know the road you traveled to even get here was rough and just know that you will never be given more than you can handle, even though it doesn't always seem that way at times. I am praying for you and your family!!
