Things our kids will never know....
Awhile ago when I worked someone had their young niece come in and help us. She needed to make a phone call so she picked up the phone and dialed and asked where the "send" button was?!? She had no clue how to use a landline, only a cell phone.
There are so many things our kids won't know about that we had. I feel like my parents must have felt when we laughed about the 8track.
Remember when we actually had to manually set up our VCR to tape stuff? Or when we had blank cassettes and would tape stuff off the radio?!?
What else?!?!

My 9 yr old niece and her friends had no idea what my IL's stereo was. They're so used to an iPod on a small Bose speaker!

Researching something in an encyclopedia or a book. If you didn't have said book, and the library was closed, you had to wait.
You had to either remember things or ask around- there were no instant answers. For example, lyrics to a song or any random biographical info you'd find on Wikipedia today, instantly.
Having to WAIT on the radio for your favorite song to come on because it wasn't "downloadable" or "presale".
Albums.
Changing the channel on the TV without a remote.
Dialing the operator to connect international calls.
Long distance was neither free nor unlimited. I spent hundreds a month to call DH in college
Getting on an airplane without security lines, ID check or body scan
What it's like to see the NYC area from the top of the twin towers.

"Be kind, Rewind" will have no meaning. Also, the sound of a dial up modem.
ETA: carrying a Walkman or Discman!

This actually breaks my heart, that my boys will never know a NY with the twin towers. My dad worked there, and I have such great memories of going there with my mom & siblings to have lunch with my dad and then going up to have lunch at Windows on the World and go to the observation deck. I wish my boys would have those memories.

Dewey Decimal System.
I was at the library 2 days ago with my daughters and a man came into the children's room by himself. He asked the librarian, "Where do I find non-fiction books about ghosts? And I also need a copy of the original Grimm fairy tales." The librarian started to look it up on the computer!! I called across the children's room, "Paranormal stuff is in the 001's, and fairy tales are 398.2!" The librarian was totally amazed. She said, "No one knows the call numbers anymore." I showed her my necklace that says "I Still Believe in 398.2."
Who has 2 thumbs and is a total book nerd? This girl right here SO, my kids will still know the Dewey Decimal System and encyclopedias and books

To add to the list, generally not knowing everything in an instant! Picking up the phone and not knowing who's on the other end. Having to actually flip through the channels to see what's on actually reading a TV Guide. Talking on the phone wrapping the cord around the house as you walk around.

I think that's better than what I went through. I would use the payphone to beep my dad and then stand around hoping he wasn't on an appointment and would actually show up! Awful

Oh man
Another one,,,going to a video store to rent a movie!! What a pain in the butt. You had to hope the new release was in and then you has to rush back to blockbuster to return it.
On demand is way better.

Cars with roll down windows, and many without AC! Now you can speak to your car, have it warm up from inside the house, and be toasty with your seat warmers!

Reach across the car to unlock the door
Floppy disk
Stop and ask for directions...from a human. Or print out mapquest directions ahead of time for your drive
Adjusting the antenna on your tv to fix the static
Adjust the tracking on your VCR
Your cd skipping n your discman (the cool yellow sports one)
Fax machines
Edited bc my autocorrect on my iPad didn't recognize some of these old a$$ terms.....
