Things to do in the White Mountains
We have a camping trip planned with another family for Memorial Day week in the White Mountains, NH (we will be camping near North Woodstock). DH used to go camping there as a kid, but they ONLY camped, never did any of the other area attractions.
I did some poking around online, and it seems like there is a LOT to do up there, but some of it looks like it might be a rip off. We definitely want to do a train ride, but there are like 3 different ones... can anyone recommend one?
What else is good and fun up there? We will have 4 adults and 5 kids, ages, 10, 5, 4, 2, and 10 months. Thanks!!!!

Re: Things to do in the White Mountains
From my younger days, things we used to do every year.
the younger kids will appreciate Story Land.
Kancamagus Highway http://www.kancamagushighway.com/
Mt Washington (this is fun but can be kinda freaky driving up and down.. it's a really narrow road and it used to be cars going both ways.. if you're on the outside it's the edge of the mountain, I think you can take the train up though) www.mtwashingtonautoroad.com or www.thecog.com
Attitash (they used to have this cement flume/luge thing that you rode a sled thing down.. way cool) www.attitash.com
Clark's Trading Post (the bears were always a treat for us.. we'd always stop when we did the Kancamagus Highway trip) www.clarkstradingpost.com
(former) Old Man of the Mountain
Polar Caves www.polarcaves.com

Re: Things to do in the White Mountains
My family has vacationed near North Conway every year for over 40 yrs...lots to do up there...
My Dad is a train buff...we are regulars on theConway Scenic Railroad.
They have short and long rides.
We are a hiking family and go all over. For a moderate hike with gorgeous views... Mt. Willard Did this hike with my bro & his 3 kids 6, 9 & 11
Here's an easy hike my parents do each year...Wilderness Trail
North Conway is a cute "Main St" type town with great little shops & places to eat...(it's also where the train is) North Conway
Another great easy hike...Arethusa Falls HTH!

I agree with the above poster - North Conway! So much to do! I have never camped there - just visited for day trips. They have good outlet shopping, cute boutiques, lots of good places to eat! Such a nice town!

When we went the kids loved Story Land. I think the oldest was 8yo at the time.
They also did the Polar Caves but DS was too young so we stayed behind. And Clarks Trading post is fun too.

Story Land and Santa's Village are fun!
North Conway has a lot of shops - outlets and more "local" shops. There is a train that leaves from there that is very popular. There's also a nice little park there right where the train leaves from.
