Things your grandparents say (or used to say)...add yours!
I thought this might be funny...our family actually has a FB group dedicated to something we call "nannyisms". I can actually publish a book, there are so many great ones. She is 83 years old, and one of the sharpest and funniest women I've ever known.
here are a few sayings...
"I don't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of!"
"I laughed so hard the tears rolled down my legs!"
If someone burps she says "Well excuse the cow, the pig is here"
"I always knew I was pregnant when my beer started tasting funny.."
Anything your grandparents/great grandparents say that you don't really hear people say?? Or is my nanny just insane? LOL

Re: Things your grandparents say (or used to say)...add yours!
An old friend told me she remembers the advice my grandmother gave to my friends when we were in 8th grade: if you sit on a boy's lap, put a phone book in between you so you don't get pregnant.
Yep, that was my grandmother.

Awe! Well, my mom is 83 and she has a few:
"I need to spend a penny." (use the ladies room)
"Be good, if not, be careful" (when I would go out! )
"Patience is a virtue, have it if you can. It's found seldom in a woman, but never in a man!"
"Who is she? The cat's mother?" (when I would use a pronoun when referring to her)
"No rest for the wicked"
"A watched pot never cooks!"
"I can't remember what I was going to say-it must have been a lie."

So many and I am too tired now to think of them...
But I remember as a kid, when my dad would be going somewhere and we'd all be asking him "where are you going?" And he's reply, every time, "To see a man about a horse." I have no idea why, if it had meaning, if it meant anything, but I remember it!

Things your grandparents say (or used to say)...add yours!
Not my grandmother but I remember getting ready to go out on a group date with my friends and my new bf when I was in high school. My mother was nervous because he was an older boy and she told me that I should listen to what Christina Aguilera was saying in Genie in a Bottle - specifically these lines:
You're licking your lips and blowing kisses my way But that don't mean I'm gonna give it away
Hormones racing at the speed of light But that don't mean it's gotta be tonight

He doesn't have a pot to piss in. (no money)
That baby is in piss up to his eyeballs. (wet diaper)
Time to go to Lily White's Party. (time to go to bed)
She is 3 sheets to the wind. (drunk)
Why don't I just stick a broom up my a$$ and sweep. (I am already busy, now you want me to do something else?)
She is the cat's Mother. (never refer to your Mother as "She")
Some popular words:
ojeda-heartburn drawers-underwear Schmata- house coat

When I left the door to the lake house upstate open, "did you grow up in a barn"?
When they switched to Fios and EVERY SINGLE DAY they couldn't get the remote to work and someone had to come over and fix it. "I can't get this darn FEEEEos to work".

Re: Things your grandparents say (or used to say)...add yours!
my DH and I always laugh because both of his sets of grandparents (more his Dad's Dad and Mom's Mom) say "and how!" when they agree with something it has become an ongoing joke between the two of us

Yes! My dad always said that when we referred to my mom as "she".
eta: From my nanny (grandma) who married my Polish grandfather:
"I'm only Polish by injection!"

Re: Things your grandparents say (or used to say)...add yours!
Some pearls of wisdom from my dad (who is pushing 80):
"What am I? Chopped liver?"
"Hark!" (whenever someone belches)
"Don't show your a$$ to the world" (he means keep your business to yourself, not literally your butt )

When my grandma gets drunk she likes to tell me stories about how she used to "dress provacatively", the shorter the skirt the better! Grandma!!!
My grandpa was Irish and he always used to say he'd "box your legs" if you did something bad. I don't know what it meant but I certainly didn't want me legs boxed.

This is just a cute thing my grandmother does (she's going to be 90 in a few months and has been responding this way every single day since my grandfather died 7 years ago).
"Bubie (Jewish word for grandmother), how are you feeling?"
Bubie: "Like an old Bubie."
Every single time. Without fail. She doesn't always remember everything anymore, but she always remembers to say that!

OMG my dad used to say that all the time! I wonder if it's from an old movie....??

He said it to DD and my niece (2 and 3 yrs old) and they both started whining that they wanted to see a horse too
