Thinking ahead, transitioning to milk question?

So we're going away literally a week before DD turns 1, just when we should be transitioning to milk. Do you think I can do it cold turkey there, or am I crazy and bring formula with me and just do it when we get back....Did your DC have a hard time switching over???

You can do whichever is easier for you.

My DS had no problem, but he was so done with formula that we switched him by 11.5 months. He loves milk

Personally, I find milk so much easier, you can get whole milk pretty much anywhereChat Icon

So then keep her on formula then.

I never did the organic thing, he gets milk from wherever

I think you can switch her to milk before you go. My ped transitions them at 11 months. I doubt they will have organic milk but I don't think one week of non organic is that terrible for her. I just think not having to bring formula would be SO much easier!

wait until you come home. i didn't transition ds right on his first birthday. it was a little while after. you dont want to be away if god forbid she had some difficulties with the milk.

ITA. We did the same with DD. We finished off the formula then went to milk. It was a bit after her 1st bday.

i would wait til you get home... it is a pita travelling with milk esp in the heat because you always have to keep it cold... where as if you use powder formula you dont have to worry about it

You can do it cold turkey- we did with no problems. My pediatrician told us to do it that way.

As for traveling- it depends on your accomodations. Will you have a fridge? We went away with DD a few months after she started milk and had no fridge in our room so one of us had to go out for milk, which wasn't a big deal. But now we always make every attempt to have a fridge in the room- it's just easier because we like to have milk, juice and fruit on hand.
