Thinking of doing Vinyl windows instead of wood...
Ive done my research and know that Andersons are top rated, but a lot of people feel the vinyl insulate better. I also love the idea of not having to paint or stain the windows since they will come finished. We are thinking of using Tri State....
Id love to hear reasons for or against vinyl...TIA

We went with Andersen vinyl outside, wood inside, for the reasons you mentioned. I never have to go outside to deal with paint. Plus, I get the benefit of having natural wood windows from the inside.

Re: Thinking of doing Vinyl windows instead of wood...
Here is my take
We went with Anderson Wood inside, vinyl outside. because we thought we were going to stain the wood.
We ended up painting the wood white...so i wish we would of just went with the vinyl on the inside. I do not like my windows they are a PIA to flip open when cleaning. you need 2 people to open them. If i could go back in time i would of gotten the less expensive windows

Re: Thinking of doing Vinyl windows instead of wood...
Thanks for your input girls!!
We just bought our house, and one of the biggest reasons for doing the anderson is for re-sale. But I am not planning on selling my house anytime soon, and hopefully when I do sell, they will need replacing anyway, so it wont be used as a selling feature. If the vinyl insulate just as well if not better, I am still torn as to why not go with the vinyl. I most likely will paint all of mine white anyway, except for maybe one room. Tri state did give us different finishing options though, and one was a wood look.

I have vinyl, and have no problems with them. I liked not having to paint / stain the windows. The moulding alone was enough of a pain!

Re: Thinking of doing Vinyl windows instead of wood...
We used Tristate to install 4 new windows (2 in the house 2 in the garage) - I absolutely LOVE their product. We met with several companies and liked their product the best. They were slightly more $ than Unified (another great comp) but they didn't seem to tack on as many extras as Unified was attempting to do. We have original wood windows and we anticipated in some rooms that the sills would be rotted - Unified made a big deal out of the need to replace the wood and Tristate said "Of course!" We've been very happy with their product - we still have A LOT of old windows that need replacing!
