For stockings I would do tights with a subtle pattern, like this
herringbone tights
When I read this, patterned tights, I initially did this: 
and then I looked at them... 
I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!! Buying them right now.

That shoe is nice but I have very slender feet and I can't wear pumps that don't have an ankle strap, t-strap or maryjane strap. I have a few heels with ankle straps that I may wear.
If I wear a strapless shoe, I end up scrunching up my toes to prevent my foot from coming out.

I also agree with all if you feel comfort so you can wear flats not a big deal...............

I think if you wear black on black on black then you can get away with a nice black flat....def get those herringbone tights though I LOVE!

OP - Definitely do this! Love love love it.
Patterned tights can also go very, very wrong.
FYI-Century 21 had a very similar Anne Klein pair yesterday (downtown Manhattan) I almost bought them, but I didn't think they would fit me.
I just think a plain black dress, black tights, and black shoes is too much black, so I like the herringbone, but you could probably also do a solid gray or a textured gray or black, but not too sweatery, b/c that is more casual.
