thats incredibly sad yes it is
and frightening
TRUST ME...I understand that most people do not know what it is like to see someone faking a seizure..
i understand that most people have very little experience with seizures at all..
YES it can be scary
BUT It can be funny, as i have said NUMEROUS times when done poorly...
POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORLY
POORLY
it usually has the person looking at you and watching to see what you are doing..
then they shake a little....when you look away they stop and look at you and wait for you to turn around to face them..
then they shake a hip...then a arm..
sometimes they will say...i am having a seizure...
YET the min you turn around...they stop...
again...people relly have no clue what it is like to see such a thing
but funny it is

dead baby jokes are totally different. i dont deny i have amorbid sense of humor.

Had to jump in just to say I found it odd you were upset with Jen b/c of just this....That you think dead baby jokes are funny but not faking a seizure?
Why is it different ?
I have a dead baby, I dont think they are funny....Same reasoning you gave to the seizure jokes( faking) not being funny right?
I guess everyones idea of funny is different and not easily judged.

I bet it is funny AS a kid. But when you are an ADULT in a classroom, as the op was, and responsible for 30 kids, I bet it's not funny. no...and i have actually never seen a whild do it..
ONLY ADULTS...as an ADULT it was funny

red, im kind of shocked that you find it funny.
its a serious matter and shouldnt be taken lightly.
because jess...
i see it done all the time.
it isn't sooo serious
And if you saw it..I WOULD BET you would laugh yourself..
some are in fact extremely comical.
People do it as i said for one of two reasons... 1. attention 2. escape..
Kids used to fake illness all the time when i was a kid to get out of school crap..
Sure this is taking it a step further..and kinda dangerous...well can be dangerous because this kids arse would be sent straight to a Er and possibly a neurologist to have medication increased unnecessarily
BUT....LIKE I SAID....if you see it..some are very funny.
I am sure this was the first time the OP has ever seen it...So i understand that shock and fear of it..
BUT..that doesn't take away from how funny they can be

In a school setting, with a classroom full of students, I don't see how one could find it funny. Your other students must have totally freaked out.
Jen, maybe one on one or if you know the person's history, it may be silly I am sure you can see how if you were in charge of a room full of impressionable students, it would not be funny. A teacher cannot condone that kind of behavior, whatever the attention the student was looking for.

because one is a joke. one is someone immitating something completely scary and possible. one is a JOKE. jokes are offensive to different people. someone faking a seizure is very different. its very real and scary.

Re: This girl faked a seizure today in my class.....
Imagine being a kid with a siezure disorder and someone in your class FAKES a seizure because they find it funny. Now how funny are fake seizures?
Is tonight going to be LIF drama over fake seizures?
If my kid ever faked a seizure in front of other kids, he/ she would be in some severe trouble with me. And I am very laid back about most kid behaviors.

Sorry, but even if a comedian was faking a seizure and it was a comedian I really liked (like Jim Carrey), I still would not find it funny. It's just not a funny subject to me.

Re: This girl faked a seizure today in my class.....
I really don't see any humor in it. I have witnesses siezures before and even gave my parents a good scare 2 years ago, driving in the car down to Florida. My situation may be different. Mine were caused by an allergic reaction to medication (simple meds like advil)..the only thing I can take the rest of my life is Tylenol. Nothing else. I compleltley blacked out and was out for a good 2-3 minutes. I had a siezure where (my family says) my eyes rolled back, I was kind of gasping for air and was biting my tongue. My body did not shake. The scariest thing is, I don't remember any of it (only the EMTs on the scene). For a kid to this is down right disgusting! What is the school doing about it? Not funny at all!

Re: This girl faked a seizure today in my class.....
I do see both sides here.
From the OP's perspective, it is completely scary for a child in her class to fake a seizure.
There is nothing funny about the child's motivation to fake a seizure. As others have said, it is a cry for attention or escape, and the child needs to find more appropriate means for getting his/her needs met.
However, I can understand what Jenn is saying. As someone who has the training and experience to know the difference between a real and feigned seizure, I could see it being somewhat amusing for Jenn to watch someone do a really bad job at faking a seizure - FULLY KNOWING that the person is faking and not at risk.
I think that it is a terrible behavior for the child to display, but that is symptomatic of underlying issues, which is what would really concern me.

I think that psychologists develop strange sense of humor b/c of everything we see...you just have to laugh at certain things. If I didn't, I would be crying all the time.
