This Is Robbie.
I found out I was pregnant after an especially wild labor day weekend. 2000 was a really rough year.. my dad had died, I'd had 3 surgeries and I was running away from emotional and physical pain by partying as much as possible. Despite not being "ready" for parenthood, on May 22nd, 2001 - after an eternity in labor and an emergency c-section - God handed me this:
..and my life has never been the same.
He was this solemn, serious little baby - always staring and studying everything around him with this 'Robbie Look' - almost an aloof little frown - like this one in his preK picture:
He still does that look. It's part of who he is - he studies you, he studies situations, he contemplates and weighs everything and draws conclusions based on observations. He forgets NOTHING.. actually - that's not true. He forgets to wash his hands after he pees half the time. He forgets to put his homework in his backpack, he forgets to brush his teeth sometimes - or forgets where he put his glasses..
    
But he is also a joy. When he first laughed it was this deep belly laugh - his smile made you warm inside. When he was a baby, we would do everything to make this boy smile because the prize was so worth it. We still do - that smile still slays me.
    
He's protective and sweet too - he watches over his brother and takes care of him. They fight - they argue.. but they love each other like you couldn't begin to believe - Noah relies on his brother and can't stand to be without him for more than a few hours. Sometimes in school they let him go to see Robbie because he misses him so much. And Robbie hugs him, tells him he loves him and tells him he needs to go back to class and they'll play later. Sometimes.. he's light years ahead of the rest of us in maturity.
    
My life changed 9 years ago when this little boy taught me how big my heart really was.

That was absolutely beautiful!
I am sitting here with tears in my eyes.  
My Nicholas is 8.5...I second your emotions about your son...they are our heart. And no matter how big they get, it doesn't make them any less our "baby".

What a gift you received in your gorgeous baby boy!! Life has a way of taking care of us sometimes in ways that defy our planning & designs.

btw, Maddie thinks he looks like Joseph a little.
He DOES look a little like Joseph... but I think they have enough differences that Maddie can still be my DIL someday.
