I DVR'd it and played it back 3 times and still could not figure out what he said.
Great episode.
I wonder if alcohol played a role in Jacks death? Either drunk driving or an alcohol related illness.
You could put the captions on. I deleted it already, but I thought he said "bye then".

Yes he just said "bye then" or "alright then", or something like that. I don't believe there was any underlying meaning to it.

I was thinking the same thing!!!
The scene with Miguel and Kevin made me feel better though - it made me think their marriage happened after he died. Since Miguel seems to miss him a ton too.

I agree with the PP, he really screwed over a lot of people by doing that in the process. The poor playwright who he already made feel like crap about herself...and the NY times were coming to see her show...after her family put her down so much. He could have told Randalls wife to leave and go be with him.

agree- he wasn't very nice to him growing up between jealousy and how his parents did jump and cater to Randall more so their relationship wasn't the best.
They even showed how he had a breakdown when he was younger and Kevin saw it and walked right past it!

Im with you pumpkin-- I actually thought it was ridiculous and unrealistic that he left the show like that -- especially after panning through the crowd and seeing his whole family there--- I mean why wouldnt he just tell his mother or miguel or randall's wife that he thought there was a problem? I understand family first but he could have helped randall without simultaneously tanking opening night if he had just had anther family member go check on him!

because like Miguel said...he has his father in him. His father would have ran to be by his side and help him.
Plus Beth wasn't there...she was with her mom who just broke her hip.

I agree but in his mind he was doing what his father would've done. So he dropped everything to be with his brother in need.

Kevin has always been a sh*tty brother to Randall - and I think now he sees that more and more.
Like Miguel said, he did what he thought his dad would do because he has not lived his life with that mentality of "what would my dad do?" as he is extremely selfish. For the first time in his life, he is seeing that all he truly has is his family and Randall needed someone.
I do agree it sucks because he ruined the play by doing what he did, and obviously that is going to come back to bite him in the @ss for sure. But as far as his character goes, I was happy to see him put Randall first, for once in his life.

I feel like Kevin is the "middle child" and forgotten a lot of times. There was the scene at the pool when the parents were worried about Randall (disappeared to hang out with the black family) and Kate (mean girls). Kevin pretended to drown and no one noticed.
Same with this episode. He got his parent's attention when they were talking to him about safe sex... until the dropped everything to run to Randall when they saw he was having a panic attack.
Kevin definitely comes across as selfish, but I see how they're setting him up as the "neglected" child, and it's only now, as an adult, that he's starting to realize how his acting out and jealous behaviors have been misguided.

I was thinking that too. Is that too obvious of an answer for the show? Or do they want us to think that it's too obvious so that they surprise us when that is what happens?

I thought about it later ... and now I don't think it's that night since it was Valentine's Day - same day as the present ... and no one made a mention of Jack that day or seemed somber, besides Randall. I do def think it happened during that time frame.

One of the best episodes so far. That song at the end! Beautiful.
William is a fantastic actor. I hope it's not the last we see of him.
