Bottom line:

-"jewelry jail" sounds like something that the bitchy 3rd grader did when she tried to hoard all the Pretty Pretty Princess jewelry, even though she wasn't even winning (remember that game?)

-The agent or whatever needs to have clear lines of communication NOW and respond to kitten's inquiries. It sounds like Kitten is trying to fix it but is at her wits end.

Lastly, it's best for anyone in business (especially for themselves) to conduct themselves professionally and kindly, right? I'd personally never want to do any kind of business with someone even using the term "jewelry jail."

This is a very fixable problem...regardless of whatever communication lines got crossed. Kitten said on page 2 here that she emailed her and has yet to get a response and was willing to pay difference or what have you.

jewelry jail. it's serious!

I do t understand this whole concept of "winning" a party. How is that something you win? It kind of sounds like a punishment to me - as most people dislike hosing these things.

Honestly, I have thankfully only been to two at home parties and flame me if you want but at one of them I did not even buy anything. I am not going to spend my money on junk I don't want. Now, maybe a direct sales wine party is something I could get on board with Chat Icon Chat Icon

Considering the amount of people on this thread that said they participated in the 'game' and then had to host a party, I'm wondering if the fishbowl of 10 cards has 9 that say "host a party!" and 1 card that says "win something!"

I've been to many of these parties and I've never heard of any salesperson offering something in exchange for hosting. And knowing the OP, she is not the type to "duck out" of hosting. I'm not saying the salesperson lied, but maybe she didn't make it clear or forgot to mention that it was a hostess gift, or maybe it wasn't even a hostess gift, she paid full price, and the salesperson's just being unprofessional. Who knows???

I don't know about other at-home parties, but that is definitely a Lia Sophia policy. You also get discounts after the fact based on how much people order at your party.

The whole "winning" a part this is obnoxious, adn I believe tha tis also something the reps are coahced to do.
I felt awful that my friend felt she needed to sneak out of my party affter she " won" b/c she didn't want to host.

This rep however crossed the line with the " jewelry jail " comment. Chat Icon

Usually what the rep does is just try & convince you how awesome it is to have a party. Chat Icon

I've actually never been to a Lia Sophia party. I'm not interested in jewelry since I only wear certain things and never change them up! And now I'll be sure to never go to one of their parties or at least buy something at one because of that silly policy.

Listen. If I want a piece of overpriced jewelry I will go to Macy's or the mall.
I would never buy from this Lia Sophia.
To be honest- I think all of these party things are a HUGE rip off pyramid scheme.

Yea. I have to agree. I don't understand why people can't have a party without having someone sell you a bunch of crap!

If you paid for the stuff then that's INSANE that she would hold it! Technically, isn't that stealing??? I sell lia sophia and I have heard of advisors holding free jewelry (free jewelry that is a gift for hosting a party) in jewelry jail to be presented at the party, but something that you paid for is, in my opinion, poor taste!

This has to be the most ridiculous thread I have seen on LIF in a while (and that is saying something!). Calling the OP a liar and saying she was too drunk to know what was going on? Really? Is it SO hard to believe that the rep may have been unclear or slightly misleading? And what exactly would the OP gain by posting a lie like this on LIF? That just makes no sense to me at all...

Seriously ! And ftr I hate lia Sophia - they have junk costume jewelry. Stella and Dot is so much more fashionable and better quality!

I hate these types of parties, I don't go to them , don't like to be pressured into having one...I don't know why the op would come here to lie about anything. Ppl accusing her of that are entitled to their opinion but seriously? I think you're reaching for drama.
Not everyone explains themselves well, and the idea of "winning" the opportunity to host a party is complete bs. I think that maybe the op misunderstood and she's admitted that, but the hostess whose holding her jewelry hostage is total bs. It's completely unprofessional and she should be held accountable because she giving the company a bad name.
I'd say wait to see if you get a response from the seller and see where it goes and just don't go to anymore of these parties lol

Call the company. This person cannot force you to host a party. She sounds crazy.

Reading this whole ridiculous thread was worth it for this pic that made me PIMP!!!

All I know is.... About 15 yrs ago I did a free raffle to win some Mary Kay product I liked, and wound up winning a facial instead. The rep would come to my house, do done facial, etc..... I wasn't interested in it, and this rep friggen STALKED me for months. It was insane!!! Then, I once filled out a raffle at a breast cancer fundraiser for some jewelry from some other company like LS, won a party, and never claimed it or called the woman back.

Sometimes it's a total bait and switch.... They tell you it's a raffle for a prize. When in reality, its a raffle to win helping the rep make more money. I get it that its their business. Can't blame a gal for needing to make a buck. There's just less irritating ways to make one!

I hope you can get your money back. Sounds sketchy to me, seems like she wasn't very clear about the policy. I never go to these parties, the stuff is so overpriced and you are obligated to buy. You should call and at least get the money you paid back.

ITA. They definitely ARE a pyramid scheme and I am not a fan of any direct sales.

Whoever said host the party and just invite her-- Chat Icon

The host did not do a good job of explaining and if you can, I'd ask for whatever I paid for it back and tell them to keep their 'nice' jewelry.

As far as direct sales I actually like Avon and LOVE Scentsy.

I've never seen jewelry I particularly likied, but I don't think everything being sold at these parties is a ripoff. Tupperware is also pretty good stuff

God this thread really went off the deep end.
Here's some advice... dispute the charge with your CC company. They will gladly refund your money.
Then go to kohl's with a 30 percent off coupon and buy a piece of costume jewelry for what it's really worth.
Lia Sophia is nothing more than overpriced garbage anyway.

OMG I read through this whole entire thread and don't understand why someone didn't mention this sooner because this would be the FIRST thing I would doChat Icon

Also- when I went to a LS party, which I had a good experience with, the party hostess recieved the discount AT the party, not before.

Re: This is why I don't like those at home parties

The same thing happened to my friend and I. We went to a Lia Sophia party and agreed to play the game. We were so into the whole jewelry thing and it seemed so promising. She said we could do a combined party and split the jewelry we get for having a party. I paid $35 for a more expensive necklace and my friend paid $15. Two weeks before the party only about 3 people RSVP'd yes. Everyone else said no. We decided to cancel and she was awful! She did not give us back our money and hung up on my friend. I took it as a loss. I did feel bad that I had to cancel but I did not find it worth having a party for a total of three guests. I will never, ever participate in a game like that again. I am not even sure if I would attend one of those parties. The jewelry was beautiful but toooo overpriced. I got caught up in the excitement. I won't let that happen again! Chat Icon
