Re: This is why I don't like those at home parties

Did she give you the option to not participate in the drawing? I "won" a party at a friend's party & I the rep did explain it well & gave everyone the option of not participating, but msot of us did it anyway, because you could alwo win other prizes. At my party, one of my friends who one ducked out befor ehte ordering proces because she didn't want to host, so she didn't order any hostess jewelry.

If you paid the hostess price, you didn't really pay for the jewelry because the cost of it is not (for example) $15, it is $15 + hosting a party. You basically put down a deposit--and it may be their policy to not refund that cost.

Any regular priced jewelry you ordered should have been shipped to the host & should not be an issue.

I hosted a party (during my busy season at work, even) & it wasn't that big of a deal. The part that is the most annoying is distributing the jewlellery afterward, so just invite people you know you will see.

ETA- this rep does sound like she is being snippy about it & not explaining it well.

Re: This is why I don't like those at home parties

Something similar happened to me. My SIL became a Lia Sophia Rep and since she has a small apartment I let her use my house to host her first party (the one that she does alongside the experienced rep). The rep that she was working under offered me a free piece of jewelry up to $100 for letting her use my home- no strings attached.

She had the party and I ordered $100 woth of jewelry. The day after the party I had a huge unexpected expense and had to cut way back on things- I had to call and cancel my order.

I never did get that "free" piece of jewelry.

I never asked and my SIL decided she didn't want to do the Lia Sophia thing after all- but I thought it was pretty poor business practice to offer me something and then never deliver.

Not really, it is actually a lia sophia host incentive. Which it sounds like she didn't explain properly. If you host a party, you get to order a piece of jewelry for $15, but you ONLY receive that piece upon hosting. If you want to pay full price for it, I am sure she would give it to you. But the $15 (or $25 for higher end items) you paid for it, was the host incentive price, if you do not host, you do not qualify for the jewelry at the host incentive cost.

This.
They usually stick to that policy. You have the right to not host a party but then you don't qualify for that hostess discount, if that was part of the deal. Was it a regular purchase or the hostess discount? The rep should still explain that and what your options are if you decide not to host.

If it were regular price you should be really pi$$ed and demand your jewelry. If you got the discounted price you have to decide if you would like to pay the difference. Either way it's pretty $hitty that it wasn't fully explained to you and she is being so mean!

I'd contact the company. What a biotch.

Anytime I've been to one of these things, the seller always warns everyone in advance that the next thing is for a party and you can back out if you want.

Or, you can be a biotch right back, book a party, get your stuff then cancel on her a$$.

This probably won't work b/c I assume the host won't give her the jewelry until the day of the actual party.

Re: This is why I don't like those at home parties

Perhaps you shouldn't insult ALL "those at home parties" when in fact you agreed to host a party, and agreed to pay $15 for an expensive piece of jewelry that you would receive at your party. I don't agree with what she is telling you about being in "jewelry jail" but to lump all "at home parties" into the same group is insulting to those of us who DO direct sales and don't use these tactics. I think unfortunately you did not fully understand what you were getting into? No reason to blame the woman trying to make a living.

I have no idea if I paid a hostess price or not. If I did I'll gladly pay the difference, or be entitled to a refund if I decide not to host a party. I don't want something for a price I'm not entitled to, but I emailed her and haven't gotten any response.

I'm thinking you did, just because that hostess piece is usally given to you by the rep at the party you host. Anything else you ordered should have been shipped to the person who hosted the party. Was it more than 1 thing? Do you have your receipt?

I agree. No reason for a response like this.

I don't see the OP insulting anyone. And FTR, I'd be pissed too if I didn't get what I ordered, whether or not I "fully understood" what I was getting into.

A lot of people don't like at-home parties, either, myself included.

Usually it's a bunch of over-priced crap, that I don't need.

I've only gone to a few to hang out with friends since I know they are good cooks. Chat Icon

She never said she agreed to host a party - she was TOLD she had "won" a party. Sorry, but I don't see how that's a prize. If I offered to host a part, that's one thing, but I would be really pi$$ed if I was told I "have to" have a party - uh. . . I don't think so!

If I didn't want to commit to hosting a party, then I wouldn't participate in that prize game. If you "win" a party, then don't want to host, it's kind of playing unfair. The rep should stress that before starting the game but I would never force someone to host.

I think the OP is talking about not getting the jewelry she purchased not that incentive jewelry for that drawing.

No, Lia Sophia ships direct for party orders not to the Rep.

Not always. The rep I had would ship to her house so we would pay less taxes.

If you remember how much you paid for the product or products we could help you figure out if it was a hostess gift or a regular priced item.

Re: This is why I don't like those at home parties

And this is why I would NEVER give that as a "prize" at any of my parties! Why would I want to force someone to have a partyif they really don't want to? If you like my products and want to host one you'll know where to find me.

It sounds like there may have been some miscommunication but once she realized this then she should have apologized and either given you your money back or exlplained that you could have it if you just paid the full price. Not good customer ervice at all. Sorry this left you with a bad taste in your mouth for these things.

Re: This is why I don't like those at home parties

If you agreed to have a party, then you were entitled to a hostess gift which is given to you at YOUR party. That piece of jewelry is shipped to the rep and she brings it with her.

If you cannot have a party, then you do not get the jewelry...its an incentive to have a party. end of story

If this jewelry that you are talking about is your order from the party, then the hostess would have received the order and she would have had to pass it out to everyone.

Sorry but it sound like either she didn't explain how the incentive works or you didn't understand. Hope it works out.....

She DID agree to host the party when she agreed to pay the "Hostess Special Price" for a piece of jewelry which is a "Hostess Incentive".

And for the record, I AM taking it personally because she didn't say "Lia Sophia" she said "those at home parties" when in fact not all reps or companies operate the same. She's giving a bad rap to all when in fact, she doesn't want to live up to her end of the agreement she made! Sue me to be offended by a broad statement she made.

Re: This is why I don't like those at home parties

I had this happen to me which is why I have boycotted any and all Lia Sophia products, events, etc. The deal is that they make you pay up front for your hostess gift which you are technically not entitled to at that price unless you host the party. So unless you host the party you dont get your gift and the representative says they have already laid out the money so they wont refund it or they will take a loss. I had numerous emails back and forth and frankly had she either given me my money back or given me my product, I would have booked a party when my schedule opened up or at least referred her business. Now for a measly $20 she has lost a client and business. I HATE LIA SOPHIA

if this is the case, she was using the bait and switch tactic. i would contact headquarters. make a copy of receipt and get your money back.
