they'll lose viewers and it will discourage talented singers from auditioning next year

I just feel bad for the kid. He's young and obviously being very influenced by what the media is saying about him (ie. hairstyle). There are definitely some very talented people on the show and it's all been made into a joke.

yeah. they might try to help it out by changing the rules next year.
like only a certain % of the public vote will count.
don't know if that will help with morale though.

nah, AI will officially have "jumped the shark"
people love the interactivity of the show
giving the final vote to those three will not help

I would feel bad for all the talented people that got voted off. As it is, someone good is probably going home tonight because Sanjaya will probably not be in the bottom 3 - again!
If Sanjaya were to go really far, I think it would definitely bring about changes in the show.

i dont think it matters
people in the top 12, more times than not, get record deals or some kind of endorsement
plus they get some good exposure when the show goes on tour

How did this kid even make it into the actual competition? They go through rounds and rounds of auditions, don't they? How was he let through to the top 20 or 24 or whatever the number is when the viewers can vote?

This is a great point. The three judges need to only pick the people who can actually sing and then the voting wouldn't be so messed up!
A lot of people they put through are because they can kinda sing but have the look

Re: This whole AI/Sanjaya thing
I wonder what would happen to Sanjaya legally, if he bowed out. He knows he isnt talented and certainly not the most talented on the show. I know he is contracted for a tour by virtue of being in the top ten, but if his parents were smart, they would hire an attorney and get him out of that contract. Its called grace and doing the right thing. The other people on the show have a right to reach their dreams without this wrench in the wheel.
Don't get me wrong, I find the situation amusing, but if he wins, it is truly unfair. He and his family should know better.

i think their mistake this season (HUGE MISTAKE) - was allowing people to audition together. i.e. he was better than his sister, so they put him through.
there was also another group (i think they were on roller skates) - where one of them had an AMAZING voice - Ebony i think was her name. Never knew what happened to her, because i remember during the audition, simon said she was fantastic!

he and his family are thinking - take america and AI for all the money we can.
If it means that he gets the big fat contract and alot of money, you do what you have to do
and i don't feel bad for the others, they will get contracts regardless.

I don't watch the show, but I think it would be hilarious. I think this show is all about Fox getting ratings and to assume otherwise is naive.

Re: This whole AI/Sanjaya thing
This whole 5 seconds of fame (or infamy in this case) has TOTALLY gone to Sanjaya's (unruly maned) head!!
He had the NERVE to be all cocky last night during judging. He should fall down on his knees and thank God and all the idiots in America that are keeping him there and prolonging our agony.

Re: This whole AI/Sanjaya thing
my husband is so amused by all of this that he spent a good 15 minutes calling in for Sanjaya on his cell phone, my cell phone and our house phone.
He couldn't find the phone at first and I told him that he'd have to look for it himself because I wasn't helping him.

they aren't doing anything illegal or immoral
the judges let him through the audition
america is keeping him there
it's not his fault - he's not lobbying to be there
howard stern and some amused people are.
is it selfish? yes, but this is a competition. By luck, he's fallen into a great situation. Why not ride it out?
If his winning was screwing good singers out of contracts, I would say he should drop out, but the other 10 will be will taken care of regardless.

Re: This whole AI/Sanjaya thing
I don't watch the show. I only watched a few episodes in the end when Kelly Clarkson won and the first auditions in season2. But I know who this Sanjaya guy is and all about his hair.
I think this is great publicity for Fox/AI and I'm sure they are LOVING it!!! First all you heard about was the half naked-toilet girl. Now all you hear about is him. Its not really about the talent anymore, is it?
After how many seasons, we know that only 1 of their winners went on to be a pop star (Kelly Clarkson), so they are definitely not going for that angle anymore. I think now Fox/AI is going for the "drama"/tabloid angle. And they got it.

Re: This whole AI/Sanjaya thing
There is a way to take care of this disaster once and for all. The producers just need to "pretend" he had the lowest number of votes and that's it. Get him off. Nobody will ever know. I'm sure they've fixed results before. What is so hard about this???

Am I the only one who would be royally amused if Sanjaya won the whole thing?
The more people talk about it on the news and on spoof shows like SNL, the greater the likelihood of him winning. I think it is sad though, that someone who can really benefit from winning the show may not
ETA: I think this is the next level of "William Hung-mania"
