Re: those of you that are dog owners & are TTC
We have a 5 year old hound/boxer mix, we have had him for 3 years. he's 70 lbs.
He used to jump and knock people over when we first got him. We broke him of that.
He ADORES my nieces and nephews and instinctually knows to be gentle with them.
We have taught the dog that we can take anything away from him. I highly suggest that. Teach the dog that his toys, snacks can be taken away. This way he is used to the idea when the baby comes should that occur. I rcvd a couple growls when I took a bone from him and with my sister's children over all the time, we needed to stop that right away.
I also hope that I will still get him to the park often.

Re: those of you that are dog owners & are TTC
I'm very scared.
I have two pomeranians, both about 1 1/2 years old, and they are not good with children. They jump on them, growl, bark and try to bite them. They are very nervous around kids, I think the fast movement scare them and they become very deffensive.
My first boy, Chip, just bit my sister on the lip over the weekend. He was lying on the couch and very tired, she was sitting in front of him and leaned back and made kissy sounds. He flew around and bit her lip- left it swollen, bruised and bleeding. I was DEVASTATED! He had never bit anyone before like that. Now he's not allowed on the couch.
We're looking into having a triner come into our home. I can't imagine not having my boy Chip in my life- I adore him! But I give him too much attention, whenever I have my niece on my lap, he jumps on the couch and get in between us to get my attention. It's not good.

Re: those of you that are dog owners & are TTC
We have 2 shi tzus. My ol guy is about 15 and the lil fella is 8 months. The old guy is awesome w/ kids and is so calm and just mellow... The lil one is all over the place! As long as anyone wants to play with him he is happy. He has his toys all over the place and loves attention. Thankfully I don't think we will have a problem. Now only if we could have a baby...

I am not TTC
But I have a DS and a beagle. There are quite a few ladies on here who have met my dog and know that she is wonderful with my DS. She was just a little bit over a year when Christopher was born and they are best buds. She is a great companion for DS.
Here are two examples: The day DS came home from the hospital:
