Those of you who had gallbladder/gallstone issues after pregnancy
I had another attack last night. I woke up at 2:40am and I am still feeling the discomfort now, 5 hours later. Last night I took a prilosec AND an Percocet- neither helped, or if they did than this would have killed me for sure.
I am having some sort of nuclear scan done on Wednesday to look at my gallbladder more closely, but in the meantime- what, if anything, did you take/do for relief during episodes?? Nothing seems to help and i'm at a loss. I now have to take care of DD all day and go to dinner for her & my dad's birthdays tonight on 3 hours of sleep. I can't function like this anymore.

Re: Those of you who had gallbladder/gallstone issues after pregnancy
I know that my best friend had her gallbladder removed about 6 months after having her DC.
Hope you are feeling better today!

Thanks. I'm working on getting it taken out, but they have to prove it's medically necessary or else it will be considered 'elective' surgery and i'll have to pay for it.

My Dr thinks I might have gallstones but if I am not in severe pain we are leaving it along for now. I have a blood disorder so any surgery is risky and should only be done is absolutely necessary.
I didn't know that there was a link between pregnancy and gallstones

can you go to the doctor this morning and have your levels tested. That should prove you had an attack last night and would need it out. The night after my attack I saw a doctor and he said gallbladders never get better it must come out. I cannot believe insurance would do that to you!

I ended up in the ER for it - I was vomiting blood and in excruciating pain. They removed it 24 hours later.

Re: Those of you who had gallbladder/gallstone issues after pregnancy
if you keep having attacks, you NEED to have it taken out. Besides painkillers, there was nothing I could do to relieve the pain. It was worse than childbirth
Can you try to go see a surgeon directly? I am sure they will deem it necessary to take out if you keep having attacks.
I had mine out 5 weeks after DS was born. The doctors wanted to wait 2-3 months after I had him, but the attacks kept coming.

Same here. I wasn't vomiting blood, but, swore I was having a heart attack. I had NO idea what was going on. Never felt pain like that. They admitted me after I thanked them for an IV of relief (LOL) and after tests and a sono it turned out I had a few gallstones and my gall bladder was very badly infected. Had my son in Jan. and this was June.

Re: Those of you who had gallbladder/gallstone issues after pregnancy
I am having mine removed in 2 weeks. DS is 7weeks old.
The pain is so horrible. Percoset was working for a while but the last attack I had it did nothing for it.
I don't lay down because for me the pain gets worst that way, especially if I lie on my right side. I sit in my glider and just breath through the pain. The percoset makes me sleepy so eventually I fall asleep and sleep through the pain.
What I have been doing to make sure the pain doesn't come back until my surgery is staying away from fatty fried foods. I make everything on the Forman grill. Right now I am surviving on turkey & low fat cheese sandwiches, grilled chicken and salads and cereal w. low fat milk. These are the only things so far that haven't triggered an attack for me.

Re: Those of you who had gallbladder/gallstone issues after pregnancy
Thank for the info! I went to the ER a few weeks ago because I thought I was having a heart attack. They found numerous gall stones but all of my bloodwork came back okay so they thought it might be reflux. Gastro doc thinks it's gall bladder- that's why i'm going for the scan.

Re: Those of you who had gallbladder/gallstone issues after pregnancy
There isn't much you can do besides avoid greasy foods. If it is getting that bad, you may need to talk to your doctor and just have it removed. Sorry it is bothering you, I know how horrible it is.
ETA: When I had my gallbladder issues, I actually had stones in my bile duct as well as a seriously inflamed gall bladder. They gave me 3 shots of morphine at the hospital and it did NOTHING. I was on dilaudid every 2 hours for 3 days before my surgery. It was the only thing that helped.
