Those of you who have a digital SLR and post beautiful pics...
How do you get them to look so sharp when you upload them to the web?
I have a Nikon D60 and use the lens it came with. I mostly use natural light and i'm finding when i'm uploading the huge images to the web (even with resizing them a bit smaller) they aren't staying as sharp as I see them in the camera or on iphoto. Can anyone help?

IMO they always look so much better on the tiny screens.

Thanks! But for some reason they aren't as sharp when I upload them as they were when I used my old regular digital camera.
Maybe i'm crazy, but can you see the difference?

I had the same issue and I still do once in a while.
I find that it's a question of lighting (the flash!), the wrong setting or I don't take my time to take a good pic.. i.e. I shoot too quickly, I am not paying attention to the focus brackets, etc..

I'm thinking i'm on a wrong setting somehow. I also never use the flash so maybe that's it? But, I see on here girls using natural light all the time and their pics are so crisp and sharp! I guess I have to play with the camera a bit more to get it right.

I would resize them in a photo program and make sure you have the resolution set high (I leave mine at 1200 pixels per inch). Photobucket and other photo sites are terrible with resolution and sharpness.

Re: Those of you who have a digital SLR and post beautiful pics...
The two pictures are a little difficult to compare because they don't show the same field of view, digital focal lengths are not standard the way film cameras are so you can't just set both cameras at 28mm, but I would try to taking both pics so your field of view is the same. Being further away from your subject or using more zoom can account for some loss of detail.
The second picture is a little over-exposed so that would account for some loss of detail.
When changing the resolution in Photoshop you are going to experience some detail loss. If you make the image smaller, either by reducing the canvas size or the dpi you are removing information from the file, it shouldn't make too much of a difference for screen resolution (unless you make the file size much smaller), you'd really notice it more when printing.
There is a site dpreview.com they have some really detailed info about digital cameras, so perhaps you can find out some characteristics of you camera which cause the detail issues. Some cameras are known for over-exposure so you have to adjust for that when shooting. You can also find some really knowledgeable people on the discussions boards. The boards are categorized by camera type so you can seek out people who are using the same camera as you.
Good Luck :)
