those that got rid of cable... sports?

Those that got rid of cable, what did you do for sports? i'd cancel it but my husband would kill me if he couldn't watch football or nascar.

So how does your spouse watch sports with no cable?

Also do you use Netflix, fire stick, or another option to watch tv shows? What do you do about a landline phone and cable?

My bill is now up to $230 a month and it's absurd! help please

DH does this. I just asked him and he wanted to know which sports you're trying to watch?

We got rid of cable and I can assure you there's no lack of sports in this house....

We have Apple TV instead of cable. Apple TV has apps for many of the sports channels including ESPN, Fox Sports, NBC Sports. And for me - Showtime, Bravo, MTV, USA, Netflix obviously. And many, many more apps and popular channels. We truly don't miss cable at all!

So for football he suggested a digital antenna and said you can watch the Thursday night games on amazon if you have prime?

He said we have an OTT service that's $45 a month and a fire tv box. That would have all the sports networks. I don't know if this makes any sense to you because it doesn't to me. I don't even know how to turn our tv on Chat Icon

My DH streams sports that he wants to watch. We also get the basic 12 stations. Luckily, he doesn't watch sports very often.

Probably a stupid question but how do you stream it?

For those of you that do this how do you have internet? Did you keep cable for internet? Do you have a house phone? I like having a house phone because I'm home a lot and I don't have to keep my phone attached to my hip.

For those that have sports apps on their TV, do they blackout local home games though? They usually do.

We have internet through cable since it is our only option. We do not have a house phone but I have purchased those multiset phones and they connect to our cell phone via bluetooth so when my cell phone rings the phones ring and I can answer them that way. We also have it set to different ring tones so we know when it is DH's phone rings as opposed to mine.

For home phone I use Majic jack- They give you the option to keep your current phone number if you prefer.

Re: those that got rid of cable... sports?

we do internet through our cable company... about $60/month

there are 4 tvs in the house

* our bedroom: we have a fire box
* SO's mother's room: she uses the roku
* spare room/DS's room when he's in town: roku and xbox
* living room tv: we have a fire box

SO has the fireboxes set up with apps that pick up EVERYTHING under the sun. he's a big football fan, more so than other sports. he watches every single game he wants to watch. if he has to miss a game, there are "channels" where he watches the games that have already been played. he even watches last season's games. the man watches football ALL.THE.TIME.

i'm a football widow all year long. then again, it does keep him out of my hair.

then again, i get to watch ALL the british shows and documentaries my little nerdy heart can take.

What apps for the football? You get all the live games? How much do your channels cost you then a month?

they are all free. all you need is an internet connection and the fire box.
i'll have to ask him for details on the apps he's added to the box. i get glazed-over eyes when he programs a box.

i'll be back this evening with info and/or links
