Those who have child/children that know how to swim
What age were they when they learned how?

Re: Those who have child/children that know how to swim
My DS can swim. DS didn't love the water and was frightened of it as a young child and I didn't push it at all. He always just used a puddle jumper or a noodle. He is 6.5 and learned to swim this summer under and above water with no float with one week of lessons. I knew it would be quick once the fear went away. It seemed as he aged the fear and dislike of the water naturally dissipated. Now he is like a fish lol! I know kids as young as 2/3 that can swim but it takes about a year of safety swim. I think the older they are the quicker they learn but, they can probably learn as early as 2 (assuming no fear).

Re: Those who have child/children that know how to swim
My dd swims without an floatation devices. She will be 4 tomorrow and has been swimming for about 6 months completely on her own. She is a very good swimmer. She went to swimming lessons and learned some basics but this summer it all just clicked and she swims really well. She can swim above and under the water, floats on her back and we are teaching her to dive.

My son was 3 when he jumped off the diving board and swam to the side by himself. We started swim around 18 months.

Re: Those who have child/children that know how to swim
My older DS always hated being held in the water. We had him in swimmies at 10 months. He never took a single swimming class. We would put less and less air in his swimmies as he got better and he was fully swimming on his own by 3. He was able to go down slides or off a diving board and swim to the side. My younger DS is more afraid. He is 4.5 and just this summer is able to get his feet up and swim a teensy bit. But he still needs to be where he can stand at all times.

Thank you all. We recently moved out of state and moved to a beach town. My kids are 2.5 and almost 5. Time for lessons!
