Re: Those who have delivered or are delivering at Good Sam

I had a c section there. Loved my nurses...they were seriously great and I think gave me extra TLC because my babies were in the NICU. The NICU was amazing!

The rooms are small though...I didn't have to share but it would have been a bit crowded if I had to.

eta: I am delivering at winthrop this time because I changed drs...how did you like it there?

Those who have delivered or are delivering at Good Sam

I had a c section there. I love my dr so I would deliver on a subway as long as he was there.

The rooms are tiny and so are the bathrooms. I had a horrible roommate which made me decide to leave a day early. The nurses were not nice to me when I decided not to breast feed.

But the care was fine. And like I said my dr is amazing. And the dr is what mattered to me

I really love Winthrop! It's just a bit too far this time, especially given my due date and this is #3. I loved the care there and even the food, hahaha!
Are all the rooms private at Good Sam? I'm unable to breastfeed and don't take kindly to people making me guilty about that.
Who was your dr., alli3131?? I'm in the market!

Those who have delivered or are delivering at Good Sam

I had my c/s at good sam and had a very good experience. My nurse from the operating room and recovery wasn't very helpful with the breastfeeding and was a little bit like nurse ratchet, but once i was on the maternity floor it was great. The nurses were all amazing. I had to share the room after my first night there but it wasn't a big deal to me. The bathrooms in the maternity ward are small but it's a hospital, not a hotel. The bathrooms and rooms in general where you would delivery and recover for a vaginal delivery are very nice and spacious. Good luck!!!!

I delivered my twins there in 2011. No complaints. The NICU could have been more "updated" but the doctors and nurses were excellent. They gave us a private room, DH slept with us every night and the food wasn't half bad! They ARE a little stingy with the drugsChat Icon I had to call and remind them every 3 hrs. Chat Icon (motrin, but still)

GL!!

Re: Those who have delivered or are delivering at Good Sam

I had an unplanned c there in May.

Got there at 6:30am, they put me in a room, forgot about me for about 45 mins... My hubs had to go somewhere and when he came back and wanted to be let into my room, they said I wasn't there.

Rooms were small.

Nurses were so-so.

Definitely not delivering at Good Sam for my next.

Re: Those who have delivered or are delivering at Good Sam

I had my first DD there and loooved it. There are some private rooms but I think its a first come first serve kinda deal with them. The delivery room was huge and was private. Then they moved me to a shared room for recovery which I thought was a pretty standard size. The nurses were also really nice to me. I didn't breastfeed either but no one made any remarks or treated me differently; maybe it was the staff I had that was more understanding? This was 2 years ago... They also gave me tons of formula, diapers, those mini bottles of ready to feed formula and even a small diaper bag (could have been a promo for the formula) to take home. All in all, I'm sure you'll have a great experience with them. Chat Icon

ETA: I had been there two days prior to giving birth and the other departments I utilized were equally nice in my opinion.

Re: Those who have delivered or are delivering at Good Sam

I didn't like Good Sam, delievered my second at Stony Brook which is far for me, I'm in Amityville. Loved Stony Brook and SB midwives. The hospital was like a hotel! Good Sam... They had a resident check to see how far along I was during my induction and I have a tilted uterus so for normal people being checked hurts but for me it's torture. The resident snapped at me telling me that it really didn't hurt and to relax. Yah, okay lady. I didn't like that dh couldn't stay over only because I was just learning to breast feed and no nurse would help me they just yelled that I was starving my baby and pushed formula on me. I needed help I couldn't hold him the right way or get him to latch and the pain meds made me fall asleep while holding him. It was ok when dh was there during the day but at night alone, the nurses didn't help me at all it was so hard getting out of bed to even get ds to eat when he was hungry, the nurses kept ignoring the call button so after a csection I had to get myself out of bed and was in so much pain then I'd try to nurse, ds would scream because I couldn't figure it out then I'd fall asleep holding him which is dangerous. Then a nurse would finally come and I'd had enough at that point and ask to bring him to the nursery and give him a bottle and then I'd cry myself to sleep feeling guilty about the formula.

Re: Those who have delivered or are delivering at Good Sam

I'm scheduled for my 4th section there next Friday. I've had all good experiences with the hospital staff, nurses, etc. had a couple of rough roommates along the way but that's not the hospitals fault. The rooms aren't huge and neither are he bathrooms, but like a previous poster said, it's a hospital, not a hotel. I did call to inquire about a private room bc my other three small children will be coming to visit daily and I didn't want them disturbing a roommate but the two singles they have are first come first serve. The food is fine, they're pretty lenient about visitors coming and going allll day, which I love. I had debated trying Winthrop this last time around but it's too far for my family to travel daily to visit and honestly, I've had a decent experience with Good Sam. GL! I can let you know how it goes this time around- haven't delivered there since 2010.
