Those who have hypothyroidism question about meds UPDATE
During the week I take my meds (100 mcg) at 630am in the car as I drive to work but on the weekends, even though im always up early I dont take my meds at 630am but more like almost 8am. It seems to screw me all up. I get anxious, nervous feeling, heart feels like its racing a bit. I only notice this feeling when I take my meds at a different time, even if its an hour later.
Anyone else feel off if you take your meds at a different time.
**UPDATE After speaking with the dr and thinking about it, we think im waiting too long to eat after taking my meds on the weekend. Ive been making sure to eat within a hour after and havent had any reactions.

Re: Those who have hypothyroidism question about meds
I set my alarm and take my meds and then go back to sleep
I haven't had that problem when I've taken it late, but my dose isn't as high as yours

Re: Those who have hypothyroidism question about meds
Is there also a difference in your eating schedule? I just started on hypothyroid meds. I've been on so many other types of meds and I never really had a major issue with varying the times. It seems that I got strict instructions about this drug and eating, ie to take it on an empty stomach.

This is definetly an issue for me because i get up at 5-530 am during the week, i try to eat cereal or something and then I take my pill at 630 on the way to work. Ive been avoiding taking it at 5-530 because on the weekends i would have to get up at that time to take it or I take it a lot later than usual. But honestly I feel fine all week its on the weekend when Ive been taking it later that I feel awful.

I've been taking Synthroid for so long that I don't have any affects but I take it when I wake up, not always the same time but never more than 1 hour difference. I always take it and then wait an hour before I eat anything

I take mine as soon as I wake up, so weekends are always a few hours later and have not had any problems

I'm on 75mcg and only had problems in the beginning. I usually take mine w/o food as soon as I wake up but not always and don't have any problems if I take itvlaterbin the day. Per the dr you're supposed to take it on an empty stomach but don't ever skip a day even if you need to take it at night. I'd call your dr! Good luck!

Those who have hypothyroidism question about meds
I suspect that you're on a higher dosage than needed.
I know if you take too much than you should, you can end up jittery.
I wonder if because you take it with food on weekdays, maybe you don't feel the jittery effects as much?
It doesn't make sense to feel worse if you take it an hour or two later...I say this because it's not like you're taking it too early in the day with residual medicine in your body, you know? By taking it later, your body is probably done with the previous dosage.
When on these kinds of medicines, you need to have bloodwork done on a regular basis. I know I've had my dosage adjusted so many times already. When was the last time you had your levels checked? Perhaps they returned to normal and maybe the dosage is too high for you now?
Are you also taking vitamin D and Calcium? those are crucial in addition to taking hypo meds.

Those who have hypothyroidism question about meds
Ah hashimotos! I have that too. Not fun!
Now that you mentioned you are pregnant (congrats by the way!) I recall when I was pregnant that my thyroid levels would balance out. My endo said this is normal sometimes when hypo and pregnant.
Let me know how your results turn out, I'm curious to see if your levels are okay for now and you're getting jittery from maybe a high dose.
Either way, feel better!

IMO I bet it is not the time difference, but that you are taking it with and without food. When you take it with food, it does not get absorbed as well. You are not supposed to eat at all for an hour and a half after taking it. I think your dosage might be a little high, but when you take it with food it it lessons the effects. With both my pregnancies I had to be increased every six weeks.

Re: Those who have hypothyroidism question about meds
I am on 75mcg and I take it roughly around the same time every day (I set an alarm). I haven't had any side effects.
I'm pregnant and getting my levels rechecked next week to see if my dose needs to be adjusted.

Re: Those who have hypothyroidism question about meds
I'm on 50 mcgs. of Synthroid myself and wake up around 5:15 ish during the week and take Synthroid the very first thing.
On weekends, I wake up around 8 ish and take it and I haven't noticed any changes when taking it later on the weekends.
I'm not pregnant yet but i'm wondering how having Hashimotos will effect TTC (if at all) or pregnancy itself. My endo did say that once I get pregnant, I will probably have to have my levels tested once a month.

Re: Those who have hypothyroidism question about meds
Ive been making it a point to take the meds on time (since i have been off from work) and not eat for at least an hr and i feel fine it is only when i take the meds an hour or more later that I feel so off.

Re: Those who have hypothyroidism question about meds

i take it as soon as I wake up and then shower etc. Then I eat about an hour after I take it.

Re: Those who have hypothyroidism question about meds
I was thinking that it might just be how my body reacts with hypothroid because just before diagnosis i was having the same feeling during the days very often, nervous, shakey, anxious. Once i started the meds it completely stopped except when I take it later than usual. I thought it was just work stress but maybe not. DH who is a psychologist and knows a lot about meds etc said it makes sense and it could be just how my body is with this. Im still going to,talk to the dr when I go in a week and a half. Ill let you know
