Question about anxiety and therapy/meds
I started getting help for my anxiety in November. I started on Trileptal in November, and also began going to therapy.
While I know I'm not all the way there yet, I have seen my ability to deal with stress become so much better.
However, I don't want to depend on therapy and meds forever.
I know it's only been a few months, but I'm hoping to go down to therapy visits ever other week...
For those of you who have been on meds for anxiety and have gone off them... how did you go about doing that? Was it successful, or did you have to go back on medication?
I know I'll have to stop taking the medication when I want to get pregnant, but that's not for a while... but I do want to try to learn to live without the meds for a while before we try.
I'm probably jumping the gun... but I'm just curious.

Re: Question about anxiety and therapy/meds
i think for everyone its different. alot of it depends on its its situtational anxiety or a chemical imbalance causing the anxiety.
either way therapy in conjunction with medication has proven to have the best outcome according to studies.
i would definately talk about this with your therapist.
the only way to know how you would react is tapering off the medication.
in my case, personally i would not cut down on therapy while tapering down on meds because its good to have a therapist to moniter mood etc during that time.
i dont know anything about trileptal? but i have experience with alot of other meds if you want to fm me.

I agree. There are also some meds that are safe for pregnancy. I've been on a few and still continue therapy. I will not discontinue therapy, especially since I'm not medicated now. I was on two different meds and tapered down after a while.
It helped me tremendously and the combo is a great one-two punch.
It takes a while for the medications to regulate your Seratonin and usually doctors prescribe the meds for a certain time period to make sure the chemical balance is achieved.
