Those who swaddled for longer than 3 months
DS is almost 4 months and has been swaddled. At almost 15 lbs, he is still fitting into the newborn halo sak that has the wings for arm swaddling. I decided that we should get him out of the swaddling b/c I know when he rolls over it could be dangerous. Well last night he could not fall asleep and woke up at 1:30 which is not like him (he has been sleeping 8-10 hours through the night). So I caved and put the swaddle on him. I don't mind swaddling him, but isn't it dangerous once he rolls over? I know they make larger swaddle blankets, but I really don't want to be freaking out worrying. Any tips on getting him out of the swaddle? I had a feeling this would happen, he would be sleeping through the night and then never get off the swaddle. He truly sleeps so peacefully with it on.

Re: Those who swaddled for longer than 3 months
I swaddle DS until he was a touch over 5 months. I feel I didnt have a choice. He used to flail his arms so in his sleep that he couldnt sleep...DS was around 20lbs at 5 months and the darn thing barely fit him. But he still enjoyed it..I think we used th swaddle me. He was rolling from the time he was 3 months but never rolled, or tried to roll, while in the swaddle me. He was quite content to lie there on his back.

Re: Those who swaddled for longer than 3 months
I really, truly think DD was swaddled until like 6-7 months, maybe a touch longer. She NEEDED to be swaddled, wouldn't sleep without it (and since she was a colic baby, we did ANYTHING we could to get her to sleep!)
We used some nice-size receiving blankets, they did the trick.

Re: Those who swaddled for longer than 3 months
DS is just about 3 months and he just cannot sleep well without being swaddled, so i plan on swaddling for several more months at least.
i will see how i feel if he ever rolls over while swaddled, but my thinking is by that time his head control will be good enough so that if it does happen, he can turn his head to the side.

Re: Those who swaddled for longer than 3 months
DS is swaddled at almost 3 months. I think I will swaddle him for longer. It helps him get put down at night. During the night however, he breaks out of it so I assume when he wants to roll over, he will just break out and roll over.

Re: Those who swaddled for longer than 3 months
We were 100% dependant on swaddling until I found DS face down and struggling to turn back over. I used a sleep sack instead and it was a HARD 2 weeks of CIO but finally it worked and he slept as good as he did when he was swaddled. IMO its worth a few more sleepless nights to keep DC safe.

Re: Those who swaddled for longer than 3 months
we swaddled DS who is now 11 wks. Thursday night I looked in his bassinett and he was completely out of his swaddle and again friday night. so I figured let me see how he sleeps with his Halo wearable blanket. He slept so well, just like normal, I think your baby will tell you when he is done w/ the swaddling

Re: Those who swaddled for longer than 3 months
Thanks ladies - he seems to still like it, but the rolling over scares me to death!! He has not yet, but I have a feeling it's coming. That is my dilemma.
