Those with babies on acid reflux meds...
...how long did it take to see a difference? They gave me the prescription for the meds (Axid) on Friday when her milk protein allergy test came back negative. She takes it twice a day. They said to give it a week to see if we see a change.
Did you see results sooner? What difference did you notice? Less crying, better eating, less spit up?
So far she still wakes up at night crying and she spits up like she always does- but she's only been on it for 3 days so far.
Does it really take awhile to show results?

Re: Those with babies on acid reflux meds...
It took 2 days to see a change in DS but it was a week or so before he felt better. Also depends on the dose. DS was on Zantac in the beginning and we had to play with the dose before we got it right...Hopefully she will feel better soon...

Re: Those with babies on acid reflux meds...
We would give DS his medicine right before a feeding and those feedings we noticed it helped right away. Otherwise overall it was a week, maybe actually a little bit more. They said it's because not only does it prevent the acids from coming up but it has to heal any damage done in the esophagus (I think) and thats what could take a week to do depending on the damage already done.

Re: Those with babies on acid reflux meds...
Not to mention it's so hard to give it to her. THe first dose she was fine with but now she is wise and the MINUTE she sees that syringe coming at her mouth she turns her head, screams, flails, spits it out. It takes 2 of us to give it to her. One to hold her down, the other to squirt it in her mouth!!

Re: Those with babies on acid reflux meds...
Depends on the meds. You would likely see a difference sooner in Zantac because it works differently in the body (H2 Blocker) vs something like what you are giving which is a PPI and works to reduce the amount of acid produced, as well as heal any damage done to the esophogus. It will take about a week, maybe a little more. You should see less spit up and better eating as well as less back arching after eating. Be patient and keep at it. We put DS's in his baby bottle nipple vs the medicine dropper.
ETA: If you havent done so already, get a crib wedge. Helped DS so much.

Re: Those with babies on acid reflux meds...
MY DS is on Prevacid and we saw a difference in a day or 2 and he was a completely different baby within 4 days.
He was first on Zantac and it really did nothing. Don't give up if this does not work, there are other options.

Re: Those with babies on acid reflux meds...
DD is on Axid, and it took that with a formula change to notice a difference, so probably 2 weeks.
TIP: To get her to take it, I put it in the bottle nipple and just automatically sucks on it. If we gave her the syringe, she would just spit it back out.

It took 2 wks to see a change in DD. I had to change her formula from Enfamil to Gerber GoodStart. I see less spitting, less crying, less arching back.

Re: Those with babies on acid reflux meds...
my DS is on Zantac, and it started to work after 2 days . i was so surprised i saw a difference that quickly, i think it was the combination of that and his similac sensitive RS formula.
i am definitely a happier mommy!

Re: Those with babies on acid reflux meds...
It only took a few days for us to see a difference...less crying/screaming, better slepping, and eating without crying and back arching. Though, the zantac isn't working as well after a few months. Our feeding therapist suggested switching to prevacid...she said it would work much better.

ITA. We tried Zantac and Pepcid first, once those didn't work we went to Prevacid. He did great on Prevacid, except for my DS it wired him. He didn't sleep well the first few days and didn't sleep through the night until he was weaned off at 15 months He's 2 1/2 now and sleeps 12 hours a night unless he's sick or teething.
