Thoughts on getting an IUD?
I'm considering getting an IUD since I don't want anymore children. I've always been on the pill (loestrin) & it has worked well with no side effects but since I am 35 I feel like there's a higher risk & I really don't want to be on a pill forever. With a newborn around, I'm lucky if I remember to brush my teeth, forget taking a pill at the same time every day. Anyone have any experience, thoughts, opinions on IUDs?

Re: Thoughts on getting an IUD?
I'm getting one put in next week as well. I will have more children, but I can just have it taken out when I'm ready.
I'm getting the one without hormones. I used to get headaches with my old pill... and I tested positive for thrombophilia during my pregnancy, so if I were to go back on the pill, I would have to go for that 37 vial blood work again. Plus, like u said, I can't even remember to take my vitamins with a newborn, so this seemed like the way to go.
I still want to look into it a bit more so I'd also appreciate some responses to your question.

Re: Thoughts on getting an IUD?
I had the paraguard for 2 years. Overall it was a positive experience. I didnt have increased cramping and bleeding, probably since I nursed my LO still. I did have an increase in discharge. It was mucous and pretty constant. Very annoying and I wish I wouldve have known prior because I was told after once removed it may continue! It stopped though. I didn't have it removed because of that just to ttc. Also I was always aware that something was there. My gf who has one says the same...my doctor says its not possible lol. Hth.

Re: Thoughts on getting an IUD?
I have paragard for almost a year now, and just within my past two periods has the extreme back pain gone away. I still bleed very heavy for at least a day or two, but overall my periods only last 4-5 days. Part of me loves it, but part of me hates it. It's a heck of a lot easier then remembering to take the pill everyday !

Re: Thoughts on getting an IUD?
Im getting the Mirena put in even though i have reservations about it but with an active toddler and a newborn i can't remember to take a pill. I have extremely heavy 8-9 day painful periods without the pill (which makes them 3-4 days and painless) so im going with the Mirena. I wasn't going to get the IUD but im BFing and my period showed up so now i ovulating and DH has a latex allergy so it's either stop BFing, which i don't want to do so I can go on the pill or no sex which DH obviosuly doesn't want and my insurance covers the IUD 100% so im going to get it, nervous though.

I have Mirena for a year now and no periods since. I love it. Make sure your insurance covers it otherwise it gets pretty expensive.

Re: Thoughts on getting an IUD?
I'm 36 I got my IUD at 35, I have one child.
For me its given me a great sense of peace. I want no more children but this isn't tying/burning my tubes or clipping him.
It was painful going in (for me) and spent about 4mo with the dumbest periods ever. Light but heavy enough to be annoying and long long long. Like never ending sometimes. Constant spotting was very annoying. Then all of a sudden..... it stopped. Haven't had a period since April
It doesn't ummmm 'bother' Hubby either. Gotta say I love not having a period and not worry about messing up our happy home with a pregnancy.
I have the Mirena.

Re: Thoughts on getting an IUD?
I have Mirena for about a year and a half. I'm very happy with it. I never had heavy bleeding. I don't get periods. I have spotted a few times, but nothing major. The only thing about not getting periods is that every now and then I get paranoid that I could be pregnant and not know it. So I end up taking pregnancy tests once in a while. That's just cause I'm paranoid, though.

I'm still on the fence about the Mirena IUD. I've heard that your DH can "feel" it? Is this true?

Re: Thoughts on getting an IUD?
I attempted to get the Mirena IUD inserted about 4 months ago. It was extremely painful for me and it ended up getting stuck in my cervix, which caused pretty bad cramping and pain for 2 weeks until they did a sono and realized it wasn't in my uterus.
They have ordered a new one for me but I haven't gotten up the courage to go get it put in yet.
I know a couple of people with an IUD and most of them love them. I know for most their periods were heavier in the beginning, but I think almost all of them don't even get periods anymore. Maybe some spotting.

Not for me. Not at all. But, at my annual check up, my dr couldn't even feel the strings. he did a sono to make sure it was in there, and it was. he said he wouldn't go "digging" for the strings until it's time for it to come out. Not looking forward to that....

Re: Thoughts on getting an IUD?
I'm supposed to get it tomorrow but now I'm not sure if I should. It was really helpful to read all this. Hearing that some people feel it in there all the time & getting stuck in the cervix definitely makes me think twice about it. Did this happen to anyone else?
