thread for lurkers/crashers getting ready to TTC

if you are getting ready to TTC #1 (or 2, 3, 4...) but are not TTC yet, come in here!

What are you doing to prepare? Are you going to start "just seeing what happens" or will you pull out all the stops temping, CBEFM, etc? Are you waiting for anything in particular?

edit: when are you planning to start TTC? (and how did you decide on that time)

I have been taking prenatals for about a month now, I have cut down on caffine, and I don't drink (for other reasons...I am training to run my 2nd half marathon!)

We are going to "see what happens" next month, and if nothing by October (wishful thinking, I know) I will start using OPK and temping.


eta: im retracting the above statement, we started ttc in july, for my july cycle, then my august cycle and now my september cycle is next up!

Well I'm a poster not a lurker, but we haven't started yet, we are starting next month!!!!
I've done a ton. I take prenatals. I've been temping for 3 cycles and using OPKs for two. I'm not a wait and see kind of girl if you can't tell. a lot of times I set myself up for disappointment, but I know that.
ETA: we are waiting b/c dh wasn't 100% and this was an agreed upon time (we will have been married 1 year next Sunday), plus having a baby in may or june (for us conceiving in aug, sept or oct) allows me the most time home with LO.

we are going to start actively trying next year (we hope to have a house by then). i just went off the pill last month and started taking prenatal vitamins in preparation. as soon as AF shows i am going to start temping to better understand my cycle.

hi ladies...new here. we aren't TTC just yet, but I lurk here all the time

so far I havent done anything to prepare other than starting to take vitamins (the gummy oneaday). I will probably switch to prenatals once we start trying.

in the beginning I will probably just see what happens and then after a few months take a more active approach with opks and temping and all that.

Ladies,

I am pretty much in the same boat as the poster above me! I have been stalking a lot of different chat threads (mainly the TTC, pregnancy, and parenting) for tips and to also help the baby fever I have been having for over a year now.

I haven't done any preparation yet since I do not plan to start to TTC until 2011 (which cannot start soon enough)!. I will at my next obygn appointment next month ask for what preparation i should take and how far in advance ect. Right now I am still on the pill and unsure how much before I want to TTC should come off of it.

I would TTC right this second if I wasn't a worry wart and had a specific "plan" in mind (i.e. want xx dollars in the bank and husband has to be making xx salary so I can go PT at my job after taking 6 months off) While we can easily afford a child..its like a science to me!

We shall see how much longer I can hold off..used to be summer 2011..now might be spring haha

I am starting next month and the only thing I have really done to prepare is taking prenatals instead of my multi vitamins for the last month.

I dont want this to be too stressful and I dont really want DH to see it as a chore so we are just going to BD everyday during O time (which I track on multiple websites) and see what happens.

If I still have no luck after 4-5 months, I may start OPK's. I have no interest in temping or charting but we shall see if my tune changes over the course of this process.

Great idea!

We are going to start to TTC our first the end of August. That will be about 3 months of being off of the pill. My DH and I both feel that now is the right time based on how old we are, how long we've been married, finances, etc.

I'm not doing much different to prepare...I've been taking a women's one a day for a long time and I've always exercised regularly. So, I'm just keeping up my normal routine. But I am going for an ob appointment the end of this month.

We are just going to start out by seeing what happens since I know how I can get and I don't want to become to obsessed. I'm "trying" to go into it thinking that it could take awhile. If nothing happens after maybe 3 or 4 months, then we'll start taking more steps.

i plan on stopping bc within a few months, the last pack i plan on taking ends mid october...

after that i'm not sure if we'll be careful, just wing it, or try gender swaying for a girl - which is something we are both curious about but it just seems like too much work to gender sway and i really don't want a girl that bad - just a healthy baby...but gender swaying does peek our curiosity and my DH really wants a little girl so it might be something we try out...

i've had back problems for years so i am trying to sort those issues out before getting pregnant and i have been seeing a chiropractor....i am trying to put on some muscle before getting pregnant so that it will be easier to lose weight post partum (and so that i can be in a good and strong state while pregnant and carrying around the extra weight - i really need to strengthen my back and my arms) and i am going to start prenatals the month i stop bc...besides that my lifestyle is pretty healthy so there isn't much to change - giving up artificial sweetner is the only thing i can think of...

ideally we'd like to conceive in dec/jan but the plan may change...and who knows what the future holds, getting pregnant may not be as easy as we think but i am hopeful that since we are both pretty young 25 and 28 and both very healthy that we won't have any fertility issues but if we do we'll just have to work through it...

Well DH and I have been slowly approaching TTC for a while now.

We had said that after our trip to Europe this summer we would start. We are in a cple weddings this fall, and then for New Years are going to Florida...DH and I have agreed that we will likely wait until January to start. We will be married two years at that time and although we go back and forth about trying sooner--I think we will likely start January.

As far as what we are doing--I plan on starting prenatal vitamins soon. Also since I have been off the pill I have been tracking my period and *think* I know when I ovulate so I think the first cple months we will "wing" it...if we do not concieve then we will start trying the ovulation kits and the like.

we are going to start trying at the end of august. we decided on that timing because we are going on a 2 week trip to alaska at the beginning of august and i didn't want to be pregnant during the trip. plus we've been married for 7 years and are both 33 so it's finally time

i haven't done too much to prepare. i've always taken vitamins and exercise about 3-4 times a week. i'm trying to tone up some more. i also started temping this cycle, but i'm not sure it's working b/c i wake up at all different times and i'm a very restless sleeper so i never get 3 straight hours in before i temp. i'm not too worried about it though b/c i think i've got a good handle on my cycle. so we'll just see what happens. in my ideal world i'll get pregnant on the first or second try so i can have a may/june baby.

We probably wont be TTC officially until this Fall (hopefully).

For now, I'm just taking pre-natals and keeping track of changes I my cycle on MMC.

we're going to start TTC sometime between November and May. This is my first month off BCP, and I got AF for the first time in several years this morning! And I am doubled over with cramps! I started temping this morning too.

i havent started TTC because i have AF now and i need to wean off of medication ive been on for awhile now.
but when AF is done, and if iam weaning off well, then i will TTC this month.
if not this month then def. next month! because i do not want to be preggo next summer....

wow, there are a bunch of us! We are planning to TTC sometime in 2011 although I plan to go off the pill a few months early to see what happens with my cycles. I was irregular before and expect to be irregular again.

I'm not really doing anything to prepare except for lurk here.

I take a women's 1-a-day and it does contain 100% of your daily need for folic acid. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy another bottle when I run out, or switch to prenatal vitamins. It seems a bit early and I think they have similar ingredients anyway

This will be our second DC. So I really just started taking folic acid as I did before TTC #1. That's it. Letting everything else fall into place. I am pretty confident my cycle has remained the same so hopefully we won't be trying for too long!

hi ladies, just wanted to drop in to say hello..

not trying yet, but i'm lurking all ttc and pregnancy threads.. I'm also reading up on hospitals, their l&d practices. I've been *trying* to eat better, excercise more taking vitamins and stuff.

I also think I read into things way too much, not even trying yet and I'm already anxious about the "what ifs" lolol!

I can not believe we are actually going to start trying! To be honest i have done NOTHING to prepare! and when i say NOTHING i mean NOTHING! that makes me extremely nervous, but i will take each day as it comes and i will be bombarding this board with millions of questions as i go along

Hi all!!!
I am not trying to conceive yet but we just had the talk and I think we are going to try for next year...I know it sounds like its far but I am on depo and it can take 6-12 months for it to get out of my system plus I have PCOS...so I just did my last depo shot and it will be done with that in October. I am going to the doctor to talk about what our next course of action is once I am done with depo. I really hope that it doesnt take us yrs to conceive because I am reading horror stories about depo and if I knew that it would take that long to leave my system I wouldnt have taken it this long.

I WOULD LIKE TO START TRYING AFTER MY CYCLE IN AUGUST BUT DH WANTS TO IN SEPTEMBER (I HAVE HAD A HARD ENOUGH TIME TRYING TO GET HIM TTC AT ALL)

I PICKED THIS TIME BECAUSE I WANT A SUMMER BABY LOL

haha this is great! so my story is that i accidentally went off the pill mid-june bc we closed and moved into our 1st house & i lost my brain mid-move apparently. haha so it was kind of unplanned to start trying, but it seems like the right time now.
so apparently we are ttc now! ideally id like to conceive by aug or sept bc i teach and that would be perfect timing to have a baby in may/june... so we are 1 month down ttc so far and i have an appt with my obgyn on friday to check me all out and get some advice, possibly go on prenatals, etc.
