For kids stuff Once Upon a Child in Massapequa is good. I've even found a lot of brand new stuff there. And there's supposed to be a similar store in Lindenhurst, I forget the name.
There is a shop on Merrick Rd in Bellmore, I want to say Salvation Army? I've found some good videos for the kids, but the clothes is garbage. They seem to get a lot of new housewares that are from Target, so maybe they donate the stuff that doesn't sell there?
ETA: The St. Vincent de Paul in NHP is supposed to get some decent furniture donations, but I've never been.
