As much as I love the look of wood I tend to feel like it's just not practical enough for my kitchen.
I agree 100%

I love the look of wood, but it is not very practical in a kitchen. I have wood in my kitchen and so does my in-laws. You are never able to clean it as good as a tile floor. My in-laws kitchen wood floor is all worn out by the sink and all the high traffic areas. This is after only 4 years.
I agree

Our new house already has NICE wood in the kitchen. I'm not touching it until it falls apart. MAYBE then I'd get tiles. The kitchen is the most up to date and functional room in the home that does NOT need renovations of any kind.

Re: Tile vs Wood in the Kitchen
MIL had wood in her kitchen for 12+ years. VERY high traffic and they always have parties with a gabillion people - held up just fine. You can always have them refinished. What you go with (wood or tile) is your personal preference but don't go with say tile over wood b/c you feel the wood won't stand the test of time. I have seen it personally with MIL - they held up amazingly well.
For me, I like either (look wise). GL!
