Tipping Spinoff- what is your standard tip?
Just wondering what people consider to be standard for average, good service.

I'm a former waitress though - I think that makes a person tip better.

Approx 20% - it may be a little more or a little less depending on how everything rounds.

i used to just double the tax but DH was a server for many years and he told me stories that made me  so now i always tip at least 20% unless the service was bad.

Same here. I was a waitress as well. It definitely changed the way that I tip.

We double the tax and then round up. If was really good service we add extra on top of that. Generally, it is about 20%.

Usually more than 20%. I hosted and waited tables so I know that aside from the work that goes into it, a lot of money gets tipped out.

atleast 5.00 a person or 20%, which ever is greater.
I hate that diner servers get tipped so low since the bills are low. So if its DH and I, we always leave atleast a 10, no matter what, then build from there.

We round up double tax, plus extra if the service was good, to bring it up to 20%.
I am a big believe in rewarding for good service and withholding for poor service.

Not sure if that comes to over or under 20% of the bill...but thats what I do.

Always 20% or more (only once in my life the service was bad enough for me to leave less than 20%), first and foremost because I know it's a tough job and the tip is part of their pay, but also because it's easier to do the math that way and I'm lazy

We generally give between 18% - 20% .... service is the biggest factor in determining how much ...
From there, it depends on how it rounds ... DH absolutely HATES to wait for change. He just won't do it. EVER! Lots of waiters/waitresses have made an extra dollar or two because of it!
