Tips for Flying with an 8 month old
I know tihs has been posted before and I did some searching but I was wondering if anyone had any additional tips for flying with an 8 month old?
Here is our situation...
We are flying Friday morning out of Islip on Southwest. We will have to change planes. We are flying to Texas to my parents' house so we don't have to bring a ton.
My mom already borrowed a PNP, high chair and excersaucer from a friend of hers at work. We are checking his car seat and gate checking his stroller. My mom bought food, diapers and wipes for him. We are having our formula shipped because we use the RTF and it is heavy.
Any other tips? What should I bring on the plane? We have some little toys, my laptop with DVD player and some baby einstein DVDs, food for the flights, formula, bottles.
I feel like we are prepared but of course I feel like I am forgetting something. Any advice you have would be great!
Thanks!

We're flying with Mason soon and he's going to be about 8 1/2 months. The Ped said a paci and to feed him a bottle on the way down b/c that's the worst. Sounds like you have everything down. We bought a luggage bag for the carseat so it doesn't get messy and also one for the stroller. Call the airline b/c you still may have to pay a tax on your DC and they also need to have a list of everyone on the plane. Your diaperbag isn't considered a carry-on so you can bring something else too. I'm taking some small toys for the plane.

If you are not paying for a seat, i urge you to check in early and get a front row seat...usually people move to the back of the plane and then when they need a seat its a traffic jam to move backwards to the from so you are safe...I always call the day before and ask if its a full plane-so you can bring the carseat on. BTW you need the base or they wont allow it unless it can be secured by the seatbelt without a base...

You can't do this on Southwest anymore. You can check in online, but unless you get the "A" group, families are automatically in the "B" group.
And I wouldn't bring your carseat base on at all, I know plenty of people who have flown with the infant seat and they never had to bring the base on
To the OP, we flew when DS was 8 months old, we did not have a seat for him as we were flying with my parents and sister (and other family members) he actually fell asleep during the flight.
I'd just make sure you have a blanket, pacifier (if he takes one) and enough bottles for the flight. Bring some little toys, but honestly, DS was so busy looking around, he barely paid attention to them.
This was a pretty easy flight for us. And we always fly Southwest out of Islip. It's the best

Thanks Erica! Our ped also suggested a bottle and paci for take off and landing. We also got a luggage bag for the car seat and stroller!
We don't have to pay anything for DS. I already spoke to Southwest.
I think we are just going to take one big bag as a carry on so we don't have too much stuff to worry about.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tips! We usually fly SW! It is so convenient and we love it!!!!!
DS is now in the convertible seat so we have the bag for it and are just going to check it. We will try to check in as early as possible to get in the A boarding group (but that is nothing new for us...we always try to do that )
I will definitely bring a blanket and the pacifier and some bottles. Thanks for the tips!
