To all you LIRR/Subway Manhattan commuters!

Bless you guys! I had to go into the city for a workshop and I'm exhausted! I seriously think the train station and subway station air sucks the energy out of my body. So for those of you who do it daily, I commend you!

Re: To all you LIRR/Subway Manhattan commuters!

thanks..last night my train sat not moving because of brake trouble for about 45 minutes.

It was an old train.

Sometimes 50 year old trains are not the answer.

We had to get another train meet us in Hicksville to take us further east.

Here I am coughing and blowing my nose because I'm sick. I'm sure everyone appreciated that.Chat Icon

Re: To all you LIRR/Subway Manhattan commuters!

I used to commute into the city from Long Beach. The ONLY thing I miss about it is actually having the time to read a book a week. Now I am lucky if I can finish one in a month at home.

I live only 15 miles from my job now, and the drive there and back still takes 45 minutes to an hour one way. I don't know which is worse.........the LIRR or driving in LI traffic. Chat Icon

Re: To all you LIRR/Subway Manhattan commuters!

You get used to it - my commute with a bus and two subways is about an hour door to door - I use the time to read and catch up on some much needed sleep.

I always liken the trip to being trapped in a zoo with unruly animals - good times!! Is bathing regularly with soap and using deodorant too much to ask?

Its a matter of getting used to it. If you did this everyday, you'd be fine.

I've been doing it for 4 years and don't think I will ever get used to it. Yes, I have my coffee, Newsday, laptop, book, magazines...but to me it's still 3 hours of my life wasted each day.

I will not be one of those people who does it for 20 years.

Re: To all you LIRR/Subway Manhattan commuters!

When I first started I never understood how people did it for 20+ years.

Now, I really don't mind it. Some days in the bain of my existance, but other days I actually look forward to sitting back, closing my eyes, reading, or watching a movie on my iPod.

Re: To all you LIRR/Subway Manhattan commuters!

You do get used to it I have been commuting for about 9 years now, 11 more to go for 20 year mark, I for some reason cannot sleep so daydreaming and reading keep me sane. The LIRR is not as bad as the subway/walking in tunnels for 15 min part. I need to find something closer to Penn.

Re: To all you LIRR/Subway Manhattan commuters!

I think I have it pretty dam good for a subway commuter. I live in LIC, and I walk 3 blocks to the subway, take it ONE stop to Grand Central and I work around the corner from GC. There is an entrance to my building from GC. Total Commute: 15 mins door to desk.

I used to tke the LIRR and it was an hour door to door, which included an 20 minute walk fro Penn Station. I knew I wouldn't be able to do that for very long.

I've also worked in LI and had to drive 35 or more (at least 1 hour in traffic) and i HATED that.

Re: To all you LIRR/Subway Manhattan commuters!

I don't take the LIRR-but I do take the subway/bus every day and have for 10 years.

I really don't think I could take the LIRR PLUS the subway every day-its just too way long of a commute-so I give it to you people who take both!!!

I've only been doing it for a month but the thought of taking the 6:17am train indefinitely makes me Chat Icon I REALLY miss my 10 min subway commute in the city.

I only have an hour combined (LIRR + subway) but to those of you with 2 hour commutes, I give you SO much credit!

Re: To all you LIRR/Subway Manhattan commuters!

I have been commuting for over 9 years and I have no problems with it. Maybe because I love the city so much. I take either a 7:57 am train in the morning to be at work by 9 am and usually leave 5 mins early and catch a 5:13 pm that gets me at my station by 6pm. I guess you just get used to it. I get to read and sleep on the train and I love that part!

I take the 4/5 - the worst. The train issn't so bad, it is the subway that sucks the energy out of me, especially being pregnant. Hate it!

You and I have the same commute. I'm still fairly new to the area so I really don't know anybody. My 2 hours are spent answering emails on my balckberry or sleeping Chat Icon
