To send to school or not to send to school...

Ali started preschool last week...she loves it by the way.

Well, this morning she woke up with a cold...runny nose, sneezing, coughing....How and when do you know when you should send them to school or not?

I never send them in with runny noses.

Sneezing and coughing - it depends on how much. Sometimes coughs linger for a while so if it's just once in a while I send them. Same with sneezing. If they are doing either one a lot, or just look off (especially tired or glassy eyes) I keep them home.

Hope she feels better in the morning. Chat Icon

DS started to get a runny nose yesterday, today it is a full blown cold. He is not going to preschool tomorrow. I wish he was as I am 38 weeks pg and really could use the break, but I am not going to send him.

as a teacher, please keep her home! let her get better! Chat Icon

any time a kid comes to my class with a runny nose, coughing, and sneezing, i send them right to the nurse to go home. they are obviously sick (unless i get a note from the parents that it's allergies--totally different story then). they are sneezing on other kids and touching each others things. there's only so much handwashing you can do. by keeping her home, you're allowing her to get better and preventing her from infecting othersChat Icon

even when it's allergies the kids sometimes go home because they just can't concentrate and have fun when they feel miserable.

hope your daughter feels better!Chat Icon

yeah, if she doesn't feel well then don't send her. I wouldn't want my DD to catch a cold from another child whose parent sent them sick, so I wouldn't want to send a my sick child to spread a cold either. she won't get much out of the day anyway if she isn't feeling well.

I would be so... mad if there was a kid at school that was sneezing and coughing with a runny nose. Be kind and keep her home.Chat Icon

My daughter woke up this AM with a cough, runny nose and sneezing. I called the teacher to tell her why she was not coming to school and she thanked me for keeping her home and told me that if I had brought her, they would have sent her right home as it is not fair to the other children in the class.
