to start CIO or not? (i know i know, another CIO post . . .)
touchy subject, I know -- but I need some input
For the most part, Sophia is a very good sleeper (at night, napping is another story).
I'd say unless she's sick or the teething is really acting up, she'll STTN (for 8+ hours) at least 50% of the time.
The other 50% of the time she'll wake up and cry until I pick her up and feed her. Should I try to stop breaking this habit? She's 6 months old. I can tell that's she's starting to figure out how to "work" us, and I dont want to reinforce bad behavior.
I dont understand why some nights she STTN from start to finish, while other nights she'll wake once or twice. I don't really think she's hungry because when I give her the bottle she'll usually drink 1-2oz, and then is back asleep within 10 mins from first cry.
The only thing I'm thinking of as a possible cause is our sleeping arrangement for her. We currently live in a small 1 bedroom apt, and while we do have a crib for her in our bedroom, she cant sleep there because DH wakes her with his snoring SO she has been sleeping in her PNP in the living room since the beginning of January. Im wondering if outside noise or maybe my cats are waking her.

I do not believe at 6 months she is waking because of hunger. Does she use a paci? Peyton has always woken up in the night. I hear her turn her music on in her crib a few times a night. But she usually puts herself back sleep. She sucks her thumb and I think that helps. Does she go to bed on her own? or do you rock her or anything?

I didnt have the strenght to do CIO until DS was 12 months. So I can't say you should do it.
What I did when DS went through spurts like that was NOT feed him, I rocked him to sleep until he was 16 months. So if he woke, I would just go in and rock him back to sleep w/o a bottle and put him back in. After a few nights he generally got back in his groove and would stop waking.

My DD has slept in her PNP since she was 7 months old b/c of a similar space situation. Her room has no a/c, so we brought her into our room for the summer. After that is was bye-bye crib. How old is your DC?

only time she'll take a paci is in the car (sometimes)
we'll notice that she's falling asleep, so we usually put her down then OR she'll fall asleep with her last bottle.
Ive never had to rock her to sleep, but maybe ill give that a try tonight

you mean your LO wouldnt go back to the crib after the PNP?? Sophia will be back in her crib by April -- we're moving into our new house and she'll have her on nursery (thankGOD!) she's 6 months

I think rocking her would be a bad idea. I just was wondering if she never learned to self sooth. KWIM?

Although I'm a CIO advocate, I don't think she's waking because she can't soothe herself. If that was the case she wouldn't be sleeping so well the other 50% of the time.
Not sure what to suggest then. When my DS wakes in the night, I usually do feed him even though I'm sure I'm creating terrible habits!

I would wait to do any sort of sleep training till after you move...because whatever you accomplish you may have to start over anyway once you move.
