toddler bed/daybed , at what age ?
and how did your child adjust? what did you do to help them transition? (if anything) were you worried that they would climb out in the middle of the night and just walk around or something?
I think I'm going to convert the crib now , but I am so worried , scared of unknown

Twin bed right around DD's 2nd birthday. Transition was fine--no rails needed just a gate for her doorway.

He was fine. He loved it. For a bit he would get up and play in his room (we keep the door shut during naps and until I go to bed at night) and fall asleep on the floor, but he has learned to get back in bed when he is tired now.

We are awful parents DD is almost 3 and still in her crib by choice. We have a beautiful twin bed in the garage just for her but she refuses to give up her crib.

My older DD was in her crib until 3 years 4 mos. (although I really wanted to do it at 3...I just couldn't get my act together!) I didn't see a reason to switch...she wasn't climbing out and she fit fine. I don't plan on putting my younger one in a bed until she turns 3 in the spring. Why mess with a good thing...it's not like they were 7.

I was REALLY hoping to leave her in the crib till about 3 or so , but now........ I just converted it, she went in fine, but I can hear her walking out of her room just as I'm typing this

Re: toddler bed/daybed , at what age ?
We plan on transitioning Kaydyn to a toddler bed next month when she turns 2. We need her crib for when DD#2 comes so we figure if we transition her in January then she has 3/4 months to get used to it before we put DD#2 in the crib when I go back to work in May.
Her room doesn't have the space for a twin bed and the crib so we have to do the toddler bed.

DS did this recently (and still does it if we leave the room before he falls asleep). Can you sit in the room with her and wait till she goes to sleep? It's not ideal, but it's really the only thing that works for us.
At this point, he isn't screaming for us in the middle of the night anymore. I was thinking about switching to a bed, but I'm enjoying full nights of sleep again, so why mess with it?

Same here. Ever since we got back from Disney, DS doesn't want to GO to sleep. Once he is asleep all is fine but sometimes its rough to get him down. Not only is the screaming and such annoying but he has learned the art of stalling (I need Lucy, I need sippy cup, Daddy sit here etc) But now we sit read stories (with the door closed/sometimes locked to guarantee he can't escape) then when I put him in his crib I sit in the glider.
It started that I couldnt leave until he fell asleep but now I can sit about 5-10 minutes then I leave and if he catches me I say, "be back I have to go pee pee on the potty" or something like that and he will fall asleep on his own!
There are times too where I have to nap him on my bed because he just wont go down so I lay with him with my eyes closed and he generally falls asleep quickly (this only has happened 2x and for naps only)
ETA: to answer your orgiinal question, we are switching DS in January/February not sure if we will just go straight to the twin bed or not. But DS turns 2 next week

DS went into the toddler bed the day after he turned 18 mos (I needed the crib for DS 2). He adjusted just fine - he was actually really excited about it. He sleeps with a little monkey blanket and we just said the big boy bed is where monkey sleeps now so you'll have to sleep there with him. He does get out of his bed but he lives like a spartan - there is basically nothing in his room but furniture (toys are either in his closet, which is closed, or out of the room). We have come in to t-shirts in teh sock drawer and diapers on the floor but whatever - at the end of the day, who cares? As long as he's in his room and quiet
I will say that if you go straight to a regular bed I think they're actually less likely to get out since the bed is pretty high. DS's toddler bed is like half a foot off the ground so it's not very escape-proof.

We just moved DD to a toddler daybed last week. She turned 2 in August. It wasn't great at first- she kept getting out of her bed and running around- but it is getting better!

Re: toddler bed/daybed , at what age ?
DS is a little over 2 and we moved him from his crib to a twin right after his 2nd birthday. We actually put the room together with no intention of making the switch yet, but he asked one night to sleep in his bed and not the crib and the rest is history.
As for getting up, we put a retractable gate across his bedroom door, in the hall so if he were to get up, he cannot wander around the house. His room is childproofed, so I dont worry about him walking around in there, although he never has.

The problem is that she doesn't want to go into her crib, she cries and won't stop no matter what I try . I tried telling her I would stay in her room -cry , I will leave the lights on-cry,I will leave the door open- cry, here is a new toy-cry, try to get her to sleep at 10-11 instead of regular 8-9 pm -cry , NOTHING we do or say helps. about 45 min ago or so she came out of her room, no clothes , no underwear, she just had her blanket, she wrapped herself in a blanket , snuggled with me on the couch and fell asleep, so she is sleeping on the couch with nothing on but a blanket. I am going to make an appt with a ped and take her, want to make sure everything's ok and she doesn't have an ear infection or something , who knows, she talks very well , but won't explain why she doesn't want to go to sleep I guess I'll see how the toddler bed situation goes tonight.

DS is 27 months and still in his crib. He tried to climb out and the one time he fell out, he learned his lesson I guess and never did it again. He is content in there and so am I.

Re: toddler bed/daybed , at what age ?
I wanted Gavin in his crib till 4 but when he was almost 2 he decided he wanted to fall out all the time so we got him a toddler bed. He hated it so we got him a twin bed..he would be up 5x a night so we got him a full bed thinking maybe the bed was too small..he's sleeping better now but still gets up sometimes. He does seem more comfortable tho..I wish he would go back to his crib LOL
