Toddler Scared of Swimming Pool
Any DCs scared to death of swimming pools. We started swim lessons last night hoping this would help get my DS back in the pool and he FREAKED the whole time. Any suggestion or BTDT experiences? DS is 3.

Eva is almost 2 ,and HATES the water ! I have to give her fast showers instaed of baths because of how she freakin screams  . Sorry I don't have advice ,but I wanted to send some hugs

See, that's the thing. He LOVES the bath, baby pools... floats and dunks his head in the water. He went swimmign last summer and the summer before and never had a problem. Now, forget it. Will NOT get in a pool willingly. I'm losing it b/c my DH and I are water lovers! And we won't him to enjoy it with us.

We took DS to the pool in our building yesterday. He was scared to go into the middle of the pool but he had a great time splashing water by the steps. I started off sitting on the side and put our feet in together.
Maybe you can try that?

I would just keep at it calmly and not push too hard, but make it as fun as possible.
When I was a toddler, I was terrified of the back yard swimming pool because (get this) of the drain plug thing. Your kid may be afraid not of the pool but of something silly associated with it/in it (like a filter, etc.). And if it helps, I grew up to be a competitive swimmer, so don't worry that the fear will last forever, mine certainly didn't!

We went through this with DS. When he ws 2, he was fine with the pool but then the next summer when he was three, it was awful. He finally warmed up to it though. It just takes time. We bought little boats at target for him to play with and he loved putting his boats in the pool. He also loved dunking DH. We did everything possible to get him to like the pool again. Just give it time, it will happen. Once he sees how much fun you're having, he'll want to join in.

We are doing lessons at our local YMCA. I REALLY hope he is better next week. But he was still crying when I put him to bed last night and he was still crying that he didn't want to do swim lessons next week....

Kaitee is 3(4 in August) and she HATES it! I swear my dads neighbors must have thought we were murdering her when we took her in the pool My Dad said she had the same reaction when DH and I weren't there. Last year she loved it and was even jumping in. I have no idea why she hates it this year

It just really stinks. I KNOW he would love it if he just would calm down. I hope this gets better with the lessons!

DS went for lessons and it got worse before it got better. Just a warning - don't give up hope though. The first tiem he didn't know what he was in for but the second time, he was holding onto the railing of the pool and wouldn't let go! The teacher calmed him down and just let him sit on the steps and play with the boats and ducks. Slowly, once she gained his trust, he was able to continue with the lesson. By the 3rd lesson, he was much, much better.
