Toddler waking up too early

DD has always been an early sleeper (bedtime at 7pm, wakes up around 5:30)... but now that I'm home for the summer, I'd love to adjust her schedule to stay up later and wake up later. It seems like regardless of what time I put her to bed (it could be 7:30, 8 or 8:30!!), she still wakes up at 5:30.

Has anyone been successful at changing their toddlers sleep times to make them wake up later? I know she needs the sleep so I don't want to keep her up for selfish reasons if it means she gets less sleep overall! Is it something that could happen gradually or am I wasting my time in trying?

Re: Toddler waking up too early

DS used to go down at 7 wake at 6, then he started to change so he went down at 8 and woke up at 6:30.

again he changed and was getting up between 4-5:30am

now at 22 1/2 months he goes down at 9pm and gets up at 6:30-7am, but he naps for 3 hours.

Re: Toddler waking up too early

I think it depends on the child, my DD wont let me switch her schedule up. it is what it is. she is 3 and its been this way since 18 mths. She goes to sleep at 7:30 and wakes at 7 am. I can pout her to bed 1 or 2 hrs later, doesnt make a difference - she will still be up at 7 - sometimes early. Makes no sense...I can keep her up LATE and then she"ll wake even EARLIER bc her timing is all thrown off. Im sure there are some mommies or have been sucessful with this but It will all depend on your DC.,Chat Icon
