Toddler with terrible cough=( HELP?
DS woke up with the terrible cough I have had for days. He was coughing so hard he was making himself throw up. I feel so guilty. He is 2 1/2 and dr. said no OTC med would be good for him and to bring him in tomorrow. DS doesn't even want to drink anything. Is there anything I can do to ease his cough? Any BTDT moms? Advice? He has a humidifier on every night already.

He's never had that. Were you able to do anything for it or just let it run it's course?

Re: Toddler with terrible cough=( HELP?
Your ped doesn't want him to drink anything? Like water? I am confused, how is he going to stay hydrated? When my DS has a bad cough/cold I use the humidifier, make sure he has pillows to elevate his head, try taking him in a steamy shower/bathroom and even give him a little honey on a spoon to try to help soothe.

Re: Toddler with terrible cough=( HELP?
Hi sorry, just to clarify, DS doesn't want to drink much. Doc did say to try to keep him hydrated. I will try the steam in the bathroom. Never tried honey. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Toddler with terrible cough=( HELP?
You can alternate steam and cold. (steam up the bathroom, sit for five then run over to the freezer and stand in front of the open door for 5) or you can justcwalk around in the cold.
My ped suggested dimetapp for my daughter's cough and it works, but don't do it against his wishes.

Re: Toddler with terrible cough=( HELP?
My DDs (2 and 3.5yrs) both have this...I brought them in yesterday and the ped. put them on albuteral syrup and prednisone...nothing I did at home really helped, but the Little Coughs Honey Elixir does relieve their throats a bit and I run the humidifiers all day long to help a bit.

DD is gong through this right now..I'm giving her honey, lemon, running the humidifer, sitting with her in the steam, elevated her mattress, and put vapor rub on her feet at night as well as the vapor plug in in her room!!!
