Toenail Fungus?
Anyone ever have one? Did you use anything over the counter or did you have to go to the Dr for something?
I think my big toenail has a fungus. It is not looking right!
Every summer it's something with my toes, I swear!!!

Re: Toenail Fungus?
Honestly get to a doc.
Most over the counter stuff dosent work and you have to be really religious on putting things on it in order to clear it.
GL!
ETA: Most likely you got the fungus from where you get your pedi's from.

Re: Toenail Fungus?
Tea tree oil works. My Mom had a fungus for over twenty years. She was scared to take Lamisil so she heard somewhere that tea tree oil works and it does!!!!!! It makes the nail stronger and seems to clear it. Give it a shot!

I have heard that and Vicks Vaporub too believe it or not...
Do you just rub the tea tree oil on top of the nail and it soaks in that way?

Re: Toenail Fungus?
Tea Tree Oil, vinegar and lemon juice work wonders on Toe nail fungus because they are disinfectants. You can apply it by using a toothbrush. Soak the brush with the solution and apply it to your toenail. Make sure you get under the toenail too. Takes time, but should work.

My Mom would soak up a Q-Tip and just apply it to the nail- totally covering it in oil.

It really is disgusting. And even if you bring your own tools, I still feel like those tubs you soak your feet in are a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus... and they don't clean them properly ever. The sad part is- I can do my own nails pretty well, but I haven't mastered doing my own toes- and when I do it looks horrible. Pedi's are my summer luxury- I hate that I have to give them up!

ITA! Those foot baths are GROSSSSSS!!!!!! They actually sell disinfectant fizzies that you can bring with you to drop in the footbath before putting your feet in. I still only go once in the summer so they can shape my toes then after, I do it on my own.

Re: Toenail Fungus?
tea tree is good..theres over the counter stuff you can buy too but its eh.
my dr. gave me Penlax i believe and it worked really well. it comes in a nail polish like bottle and you put it on it once a day. She had told me with lamisil its digested through your liver so you need to be monitored closely on it.
is your toe green? or just yellowish looking?

Mid way up the big toe nail it looks a bit yellow and discolored and the nail itself feels odd- like when I tap on that nail it sounds almost hollow- like the nail is dead and just a shell.. it's so freakin' gross!!!

Re: Toenail Fungus?
I have the same thing and am going to a podiatrist today. I will let you know the verdict tomorrow.
Is your nail very brittle and thick?

It's not thick- it's more like it's thinning out...when I tap it, it sounds hollow like a shell... So odd...
