Toenail fungus that turned out NOT to be toenail fungus?!

Has anyone ever had anything like this?

I could have SWORN that I got a fungus from my pedi. place. It's on 3 of the nails.

I went to the derm. and he took samples and had them tested. He called me yesterday and told me that it's not a fungus, that the discoloration could be due to my shoes rubbing Chat Icon This doesn't seem to add up in my mind...

I have no idea what to do now--how do I fix this? I'm really frustrated...he basically told me that there's nothing I can do about it! Grrrrrr

I'm sorry, I don't have any advice to give but I know how frustrating that is!

I have had issues with pedicures and it s*cks. Especially since u go specifically to relax and "better" yourself Chat Icon and then you end up with a punishment Chat Icon ... ie.- fungus.. ingrown toenails... in my case I got a chunk of skin clipped off my toe that took a month to heal....... ugh.

Yet, I still go back! Chat Icon

I've had issues with "toe rubbing." I once did a hike and a huge portion of it was downhill. So it was like all my body weight was in my big toe, rubbing against the end of my shoe. Two days later, half of my toenail was black. It didn't hurt, it just looked gross. And I had to wait for it to grow out - the big black spot just grew up with my nail and then when it got within clipping range, I got rid of it. Like I said, I didn't feel it at all, but it looked so disgusting, I couldn't wait till it was gone. So I sympathize with you. Chat Icon

I've actually tried just clipping it away and when the nail grows back, it looks exactly the same Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have had issues with my foot pistoning in the shoe and got a hematoma from it.( a blood blister w/ brown and black and purple on it under the nail) It took 10 months to grow out of my big toe. At first it hurts, then it goes away. I have worked for a podiatrist for 18 yrs, and he always says to make sure you have properly fitted shoes. HTH
Make sure any place you get a pedi is spotless, we have seen a lot of patients at my office with issues from pedi places. Also, do not let them play"foot doctor" this is how things get infected.

Let me tell you, I am the QUEEN of toenail issues these days.
I won't even get into my current situation. Chat Icon

HOWEVER... that discoloration you are seeing- if it's not fungus- is most likely a bruise under your toenail- caused by either dropping something on your foot, or wearing too tight shoes and walking and/or running in them.

It's happened to me twice already- same foot- and both times the toenail eventually died and grew off as a new one grew in.

That could definitely be your issue too!
