Told the wrong sex?
I went in for a growth sono b/c I'm measuring a little bit ahead and we asked the tech the sex just to make sure. This time we were told it was a girl, but at the 19 week they said it was a boy.
Has this happened to anyone else? I don't know which sono I should go by or if I should just get some unisex clothes.

Re: Told the wrong sex?
that happened to my sister. the docotr took a closer look the third time and said he was 99.9% sure it was a girl and it was! So maybe have them check each time you go there.

Re: Told the wrong sex?
Hmmm...could she have made a mistake? I was told boy at 12 weeks, and it was a girl, but that was really early.

Re: Told the wrong sex?
If I had to go by one- I'd go with the most recent as the baby is WAY more developed.

Re: Told the wrong sex?
I would say, this last sono would probably be more accurate. I was so afraid of this happening that I had the sex checked 4 times so far. Saturday is my 3-d sono and Im having them confirm a 5th time.

Re: Told the wrong sex?
I have the same thing going on now. I had to go twice for my amnio, the first one said that she thought it was a girl, so I spent a week trying to get my head around a girl. I went to do the amnio on Tuesday and this one said that it was a boy. So I will just hold my breath until the results come back and will determine the sex for sure.

Re: Told the wrong sex?
How many weeks were you when they first predicted the sex? It may have been to early and the boy parts hadn't descended from the abdomen yet.

Re: Told the wrong sex?
This happened with a family member...they told her boy and says 99% positive, at her 12/13wk sono and she just had her 20wk one, a girl.
The umbilical cord could be why they thought boy.

Re: Told the wrong sex?
If it is too early the genitalia - girl or boy - are both external - it is only after 20 weeks that the boys stay out and the girls go in
That is how they explained it to me - my friend was told boy at 12 weeks and later told girl at 20 weeks

Re: Told the wrong sex?
This is another reason I'm not bothering to find out either way - I've heard that these readings are not 100%. It really makes no difference to us anyway. Just grateful that so far everything's going well. I'd go with gender neutral.

I just did this on Sunday and they couldn't confirm 100%. They said it what it most likely was.

Re: Told the wrong sex?
I have a friend who was told from 3 sono's she was having a girl. She had a pink shower, gifts with the girl name on it, the room wallpapered and carpeted in pink and lavendar. Well, when it came out, they were shocked when the doc said ITS A BOY! It was so... crazy.

Re: Told the wrong sex?
Both techs said they were 99% sure, so I don't know what to go by.
I guess I'll just have to wait until the birth

Ask Ang-Rich, she was told girl, and Lucas is a beautiful BOY
Yup...here's what happened...and my advice:
We went for the Level II where they can also confirm the sex at LIJ. The baby wasn't cooperating but when he moved a little the tech said boy but that she was not allowed to commit to that and to wait for the doctor. The doctor came in and said the legs were crossed and couldn't tell but was 85% sure girl but again said that according to hospital policy he could not commit because he wasn't 100% sure. Plus he was a real jerk so I was completely upset.
So we went to Impact Technologies in East Meadow for the 3D and to see if they could determine the sex (I was on a mission). The guy there told us 100% girl.
At my 30 week appt my OBGYN thought the baby was measuring bigger on size vs date so she sent me back to LIJ for a sonogram. She also knew that I wasn't able to find out the sex but didn't know about my visit to Impact (well she should have since she signed the form but they can't remember all those things ). So we went back - now at this point my shower is 4 weeks away and I have registered for a girl. Something kept nagging at me so I asked the tech at LIJ to confirm that it was a girl.
For the rest of my life I will never forget that day. She looked at the baby and paused...then in a panic asked who at the hospital had told me girl. I explained that no one at LIJ had confirmed it...and then she told me...it was a boy but said to wait for the doctor. A doctor came in (different than the first and much nicer) and said that if she couldn't confirm the sex she would not tell me. She started looking and within seconds pushed her chair back and repeated the policy....then told me she was 100% that it was a boy. She showed us all the parts and offered to bring in another doctor.
I was always skeptical from that point on but returned all the girl clothes and got boy clothes. Calls went out to the guests for the baby shower and most were able to change things...although many of my items from the registry were neutral to begin with so that was okay.
When I was in labor my doctor was on vacation so her partner was there...it was a long day and towards the end everyone knew the story. When Lucas was born there were about 5 people in the room and everyone shouted BOY when he came out.
My advice: Ask for confirmation every chance you get. Get things you like - especially the patterns that you would use regardless of boy or girl.
Keep all the receipts for things that you buy. Most stores have 90 day return policies...I was able to return almost all of the clothes I bought (something I didn't want to return...like the great sale I got on purple baby uggs...I am saving those).
Make sure you understand the return/exchange policy for the baby bedding and see if the place you are getting it from has both a girl and boy set that you like...makes exchange easier because at the very best you only get a store credit and have to purchase there anyway.
Let me know if you have any questions.
In the end it all works out...you'll have time to get things if you end up with a surprise!
