Told work - feel guilty - not sure why.

So I told my boss this week, who was very, very supportive and happy for me. But, I can't help but feel guilty. I don't know why. It's not like the place will fall apart without me!

It has just been a very big year at work for me: I was promoted a few weeks ago, I just had my year end review and received the highest rating possible at our firm. I haven't gotten my 'numbers' yet but my boss has said on multiple occassions that I should be happy.

I guess it's tough because I really love my job and co-workers.

It's 2014 and I shouldn't feel this way, I have every intention of coming back, but I am scared I won't get good projects or will miss out of opportunities because they know I will be out a few weeks.....


Anyone else feel like this???

It's tough to describe. I feel like I cheated on them... which I know is absolutely ridiculous.

I think it's a normal feeling. Work is a huge part of your life before you have kids (and after) and if you love what you do and where you work, it's tough to take time away.
I was upset about having to take time off of work with my first, but after she was born that totally changed, I was more than happy to have those weeks off - I took 8 weeks - to be with her.
I'm sure you're not the first one at your firm to take maternity leave. You will pick up where you left off when you get back - try not to let it upset you, this should be a happy time! Totally understand how you feel though

I agree, it's totally normal. You saw my post from the other day! Take it one step at a time and don't beat yourself up!

I felt super-guilty too ... it went away eventually and now i'm just happy everybody knows and is supportive.
