tonsil, adenoid and ear surgery. I have a question for those btdt (especially of older kids).
My son who is 6 years old needs to have his tonsils and adenoids taken out, but also tubes put in his ears for fluid.
Is there a period after the surgery in which he can't take part in physical activity?
my friend said 2 weeks. So i'm trying to schedule around that. I'd hate for it to be in the summer and then he can't go to camp for 2 weeks...

Re: tonsil, adenoid and ear surgery. I have a question for those btdt (especially of older kids).
It depends of the type of surgery. My 2 oldest had theirs removed and they couldn:t do anything for 2 weeks. My youngest had them shaved and the dr said that kids return to normal activity in 3 days )he was 19 months so I cant go based on him.
My 3rd little guy had tubes in his ears at 9 months, but I was told there were absolutely no restrictions.
Good luck to you and your son!

My son was 8 when he had his tonsils and adenoids out. He wasn't allowed to participate in physical activity for 3 weeks.

Re: tonsil, adenoid and ear surgery. I have a question for those btdt (especially of older kids).
thanks ladies. Now how was the day of surgery? did they sleep a lot that day/night?
meaning, we're running into a scheduling conflict.
They want to do this friday but my husband will be at the police academy graduation that he has to go to. The kid he kind of mentored is graduating.
The doctor said he'd have surgery at 7:30am and we'd most likely be leaving by 10am. So we could have the guys grab my husband from the hospital at 9:30 and head up west.
Otherwise we're looking at mid july for the surgery and i think doing it in the summer would be worse. Then he'd miss camp, can't run around at the beach and/or parties.
i'm totally fine handling this on friday without him. He is not okay with it, but i feel like this is our only option.

Our situation was a little different since my son had to stay overnight in the hospital due to a blood disorder. I don't recall him being overly sleepy though. The pain really had set in the next morning. You have to be very on top of the pain medication. I don't think your son would be ready to travel anywhere that day to be honest.
I would do it Friday over the Summer to be honest.

Oh, your post was confusing, I thought you meant he would be traveling with you and your husband after the surgery "west". I now see you meant someone would pick up your husband and he would go alone. I would just go that route.

Re: tonsil, adenoid and ear surgery. I have a question for those btdt (especially of older kids).
DD had her tonsils (partial) and adenoids taken out a couple months ago and had to spend one night in the PICU. DD had to stay home for three days and was then allowed to return back to school/normal activities.

Did their voices change after????
my sons voice is now super soft (it was soft to begin with) and sounds like he has a lisp now. Certain words are hard for us to understand now and we keep telling him to speak up.
