Tooth pulled
I have to have one tooth pulled in the back of my mouth. Anyone who has had a tooth pulled, do you get knocked out or Novacaine?

Re: Tooth pulled
I had novacaine and it was fine. You mostly just feel the pressure but no pain

Re: Tooth pulled
I am a total baby -- I need something more than Novocaine.
I've been knocked out for dental surgery -- but for stuff like 1 tooth being pulled or a root canal, I ask for the gas. It truly makes the experience MUCH MUCH MUCH more bearable.

Re: Tooth pulled
I used Novocaine and it wasn't painful at all. I was not prepared for the noise at all THAT was the worse part.

Re: Tooth pulled
check your insurance, being knocked out may not be covered.

Re: Tooth pulled
I had to have a tooth pulled during my last pregnancy. I couldn't have regular novocaine but I got something similar. The tooth and nerves were totally dead so really all I felt was tugging, like a dull pressure. But no pain.

Re: Tooth pulled
When I had my wisdom tooth removed I used Novocaine and I regret it. First, the grinding noises were grusome and really awful to listen to. Second, the position i was in with my mouth was very uncomfortable. I was gagging the whole time. Next time I am getting knocked out !

Re: Tooth pulled
DH had 4 wisdon teeth pulled (2+2) and they gave him novocaine both times. He says he didn't hear any grinding. Really it was just more of a weird, numb, tugging sensation, he says.
He topped each visit off with two medium Jacks on the rocks

Re: Tooth pulled
Just had my two upper wisdom teeth out in October (one week after another, not that the same time!). Novocaine was all I had and it was relatively painless... I just hated the noise, like someone mentioned, the crackling (at one point, I swore he broke my tooth in half and it was nothing, he was done!).

Re: Tooth pulled
3 wisdome teeth, partially impacted, all with Novocaine. By the time you realize what the noises are, the tooth is out.
I usually count the ceiling tiles or mentally recite the alphabet backwards to keep my mind occupied.

Re: Tooth pulled
I need gas and Novocaine. I feel everything.
I just had a root canal done recently, had both, and they still had to shoot novocaine up into the roots cause I could feel it.

Re: Tooth pulled
I was petrified, actually broke down hysterically crying when my dentist told me I had to have my wisdom tooth pulled. Since DH had his pulled only a year earlier I decided to be knocked out.

Re: Tooth pulled
you totally can't feel any pain with the novacaine shots... its just pressure. its weird and sounds awful but doesn't hurt.
